Mikey looked like he had stamina problems against Salido. Salido was really coming back after taking punishment from Garcia. Donaire, a top 5 p4p contendor, got schooled by Rigondeaux, and you're saying he can knock him out... Garcia couldn't even finish off Orlando Salido.
To have the chance of beating Rigo, you have to make him come out of his shell and fight even if you have to chase and pressure him and cut the ring all night long.
Those Nonito Donaire dismally failed to do for reasons which he and his corner only knew. One thing however was clear to the boxing fans---Donaire and his camp did not prepare well and right for that fight.
But as the saying goes, one swallow does not a spring make. A lone victory over a P4P top lister as Nonito Donaire does not make Rigo an undisputed great, and an invincible one at that.
Mikey Garcia is an entirely different foe and challenge for Rigo.
Mikey has the speed, the skills, the strength and most importantly the determination and the fortitude typical of Mexican ring warriors not only to trouble but beat Rigo.
Am a Filipino and a Nonito fan and I am thankful that Nonito and Mikey are bossom buddies who would not fight each other because I think that Mikey has what it takes to also beat Nonito at 126 lbs.
In a fight against Rigo at 126 lbs., I think Garcia would start fast and strong and force Rigo to fight his fight by constantly applying pressure, cutting the ring and throwing voluminous punches from various angles. In short, Garcia would go after and swarm all over Rigo from the opening bell and prevent him from establishing certain comfortable range and pace, tempo and rhythm which Nonito dismally failed to do in their fight.
A knockout win for Garcia, who gamely took the biggest punches from a virtual 140 pounder Salido in beating the Mexican vet, is not farfetched if he can force Rigo to stand up and fight.
