Hi Anton! Gerry Cooney was surely a tremendous puncher and only lost to some of the best boxers such as Larry Holmes, Michael Spinks, and George Foreman. He beat the likes of Jimmy Young, Ron Lyle, and Ken Norton. Jerry Quarry was a very good contender that fought many great fighters such as Floyd Patterson, Jimmy Ellis, Buster Mathis, Joe Frazier, George Chuvalo, Muhammad Ali, Ron Lyle, Earnie Shavers, and Ken Norton. He even knocked out Earnie Shavers in 1 round! He also beat Ron Lyle by a decision win. That being said, this will be a barn burner for sure. Quarry's great endurance will make the difference here, and he will knock Cooney out in the late rounds.

In his 18 years long career, Quarry was kayoed only once ( by George Chuvalo Ko 7 ) when he opted to rise as the referee counted ten after earlier rising up at the count of three but electing to take a knee for the rest of the count from being floored by a left hook to the top of the head. He was well ahead on points at that juncture.Since that fluke Ko loss, he will not be kayoed again losing only by cut-induced TKOs twice to Ali, twice to Frazier and once to Ken Norton. IT was a testament to his toughness, durability and courage that he was inducted to the Hall of Fame with a ring record of 53 wins, 32 by KOs against just 9 defeats while fighting in the most competitive, strongest era in heavyweight boxing.
Among his signature wins were those over KO artists Ernie Shavers and Mac Foster both whom he kayoed and giants Buster mathis and Ron Lyle both of whom he defeated by UD.
I would not sell Quarry short against Cooney unless he suffers from serious injury early in the fight that could lead to a stoppage.
I think Cooney would stop Quarry. For all his toughness, he'd be at a huge disadvantage with Cooney's size, strength and superior hitting power.
