Gene would win this bout by a clean UD or even a knockout. Patterson had a glass chin, so I give Gene even a chance in knocking Floyd out. Gene Tunney was much faster on his feet than Patterson, he had the harder chin, a great defense and fast hands. Gene is very underrated when it comes to skills. He was the first heavyweight boxer that used a great footwork with speed and grace. Floyd's footwork was also good, but Gene was much faster on his feet than Floyd. Foot speed would make here the difference. Gene was so fast on his feet, that Patterson wouldn't be able to catch him. Maybe Floyd has the faster Hands, but Gene has a too good defense, so that Floyd wouldn't be able to hurt him. This bout would be similar to Patterson-Ali I. Maybe Gene is slower than Ali on his feet, but still fast enough to escape Floyd's fast hands. Gene Tunney had the greatest footwork ever for a heavyweight(right behind Ali, Walcott and Tyson).
Tunney by 15 UD
Gene Tunney will win this one but it will be closer than most people think. Floyd has fast hands and he will score often early on and will be ahead on the score card. Most people will think that if Ingemar Johansson can TKO Floyd then it will be easy for Gene Tunney but it won't be because they forget that Floyd just had a bad night. He avenged that lost to Johansson twice. Floyd is the fastest opponent that Gene ever encounter in the heavyweight division and it will take several rounds before Gene can adjust to that speed. If this fight is 10 rounds, I would give it to Floyd but 15 rounds. Gene Tunney stamina and Floyd chin will spell doom for Floyd. Gene Tunney by 14th round KO.
This is a really tough pick. Both guys were at their best at around 180 pounds. Pattersons hand speed in his prime was second to none. Over Fifteen rounds I'd pick Tunney. Patterson was outboxed by Joey Maxim. Tunney is on par with maxim regarding boxing ability.
Gene Tunney would beat Floyd Petterson to a pulp. Biff bash bosh, sorted.
Lol, I don't know who or what either of them are nor anything about them, but I have a 50% chance of being right, lol.
tunney. especially the tunney from after the first greb fight, who trained with benny leonard.
