Miguel Cotto won't fight Gennedy Golovkin because he can make three times the amount by fighting Saul Alvarez who has a larger fan base and more marquee appeal.
Golovkin is the best Middleweight but he's a virtual unknown to the casual Boxing fan which means if Miguel Cotto fights him the chances of him securing a large payday are slim to none.
On the other hand if Miguel Cotto were to fight someone like "Canelo" Alvarez he would be able to make more money because it's "Canelo" who has the larger fan base.
Golovkin would destroy Cotto. It would be a bad fight for Miguel and I'm not even sure I'd want to see it because I think Miguel is a nice guy. Also, it's more than likely that he would have his entire family accompany him. I would hate to see Cotto's kids watch him get brutalized the way he would against Golovkin.
.
You think Joe Frazier's kids were traumatized by ALI's taunts? Cotto's kids would have nightmares for the rest of their lives. Golovkin isn't exactly the world beater people make him out to be. He certainly has flaws. However, Cotto has nothing to offer him. To beat GGG, you need to have the speed and skill to exploit his weaknesses and the power to gain his respect. Cotto has none of the above.

Golovkin by KO in 6.

Cotto's best move would be to fight Canelo Alvarez for the money then retire. A rematch with Martinez would be a good fight as well but it wouldn't net nearly as much as a shootout with Alvarez would.
Bad fight for Cotto, Miguel should take a few easy money fights before taking on a young, talented and hungry fighter like Golovkin.or Alvarez. If he absolutely is forced to take on a younger fighter, it should be Chavez Jr. the name recognition will insure a huge pay per view take, and Jr. is more beatable for Cotto than either Canelo or Gennedy. That said, I would avoid all three if I was advising Cotto and look for a big money fight with either Manny or Floyd first, while knocking off a few B rated contenders for some quick cash. Now that Cotto is back on top with a major title, he needs to get a few easy paydays to make it worth the effort of getting it before he gives it up.
Cotto got annihilated by a smaller Pacquiao. Against GGG its gonna be more brutal.
This is the type of fight GGG fans want. They love to see him vs smaller, flawed, aged, opponents. Cotto is all that. It would be a big "name" win for him.
Doubt it. I don't even expect Cotto to defend his title at 160. Soon GGG will be the middleweight king.
why not GGG vs Floyd?
cotto to stay where he is and not Venture higher IMO
After GGG beats Geale or if, what are the chances of GGG next fight to be against Cotto? Are the chances slim or is it highly likely?
