Interesting fight Floyd has excellent hand speed and accuracy, both are great defensive fighters.
Whitaker could easily slip punches like no other boxer i've ever seen i think even Floyd would have trouble hitting him and seeing Whitaker is a southpaw there will be a lot of holding and inside fighting going on and possible headbutts.
Floyd would have to be the aggressor here, because Whitaker would be too weary to chase after Floyd and possibly eat a lot of counter punches from him if he tried to chase him.
The early rounds start out with Whitaker throwing the right jab expecting Floyd to come forward. Floyd moves over to the side of the ring trying to cut Whitaker off. Whitaker moves to the side trying to either get out of the corner or get Floyd up against the ropes. The first 4 rounds are played out like this with Whitaker winning Three out of four.
In the mid-to-late rounds Floyd having took punches from Pernell realizes his punches can't hurt him and starts cutting off the ring effectively having corned him he throws combinations, which Whitaker tries to dodge but ends up eating them. Those rounds go to Floyd
In the final rounds(11th and 12th) Floyd attempts to Ko Whitaker, but no longer having the stamina just decides to get in close to Whitaker, so he can counter. Floyd counters effectively, but somehow Whitaker wins the final two rounds
The fight would end 116-112 on two of the three judges ring cards the other 115-113 all in favor of Whitaker.
As a huge Whitaker fan, I'd have to go with Mayweather. I'm to the point now, betting against Mayweather is just not anything I can do. He would figure out a way to win, in my eyes.
If they both went on the defensive, Floyd's counters would be the difference. His counters are better than Sweet Pea's.

Floyd didn't ever fight someone with Pernell Whitaker's head movement. Remember that Sweet Pea was robbed of victories over two all time greats in Julio Cesar Chavez and prime Oscar Dela Hoya. His resume far outstrips Floyd's.
Classic match for sure. I would want to see this, to see how Floyd would deal with another great defensive fighter. Maybe Pernell would frustrate him, because he never faced a guy with defense on the same level. I would leans toward Floyd though.
