That or the Cotto fight any time in 09 would have been the best we could get, both men at the peak of their games both with recent wins over Oscar DeLaHoya and then Ricky Hatton two of the biggest fan bases in boxing and after Mayweather beat Marquez would have been the best time for money, meaning and primes.
What could have been! The top 2 pound for pound fighters in the world at their peak. One an aggressive, explosive and energetic brawler hero from humble beginnings with his Parkinsons ridden trainer against the undefeated arrogant quick footed defensive master and boxing's bad guy.
I think the fight would have its momentum swings, I dont go for the opinion that Pacquiao would blow him out in a few rounds. I think Pacquiao would have taken his time and been cautious in the first few rounds as would Mayweather. I think the first 4 or 5 rounds would be somewhat dull close, hard to score rounds.
In the second half I see Pacquiao upping the aggression and attacking Mayweather along the ropes, I think Mayweather plays the waiting game hoping for Pacquiaio to tire out from his relentless aggression. Once Mayweather comes to realize that Pacquiao is not going to get tired like Cotto, Judah and DeLaHoya and realizing that he likely behind on the score cards, Mayweather comes out aggressive and catches an unsuspecting lackadaisical Pacquiao and has him reeling and befuddled, at some point in the last couple Pacquiao regroups and engages Mayweather who engages back, its a war till the end a split decision both men are humble and praising in their interviews. both feel they won, the public is split and they make gazillions of the following 2 fights.
Its shame this new generation of boxing fans never got to see the Ali-Frazier, Robinson-Lamotta, Leronard-Duran of their era. I cant remember another fight in all my years the magnitude of Maywearher vs Pacquiao not happening. And something tells me at some point Pacquiao and Mayweather will be in the ring together far to many years to late.
Floyd Mayweather by decision. Manny Pacquiao is a C, maybe a B level fighter who was hyped up by the media to be Mayweather's biggest threat. The truth is, Manny Pacquiao was as much a threat as all of Mayweather's opponents. He doesn't have a plan B or C and when he loses his game plan he gets frustrated. Mayweather would take his strength away(speed) by timing his punches and countering him, using Pacquiao's; aggression against him. Every one talked about it like Mayweather would just stand still for Pacquiao to do his thing. Blind "fans".
If Floyd fought Pacquiao in his prime, Pacquiao would have knocked the effin shyte out of Floyd and make floyd look like Silva when he got knocked out by Weidman.
That's why FLOYD ducked pacquiao cuz he knew he was gonna get hurt bad.
