I absolutely think he still has a future in boxing though and I hate the way that everyone gets written off now after losses. All it means is that he isn't quite as good as we thought and he isn't ready for the top level yet. Look at guys like Danny Williams, Skelton and rogan etc. None of them were world beaters but they gave some good fights in British rings and made a nice living out of it too.
Boxers are different from the people who judge them( I know you know this being an ex boxer too) and I can't imagine most fighters just packing up their career at an early stage just cause they had a few big setbacks. It's why I went from being a khan hater to respecting him, he's never doubted himself and kept coming back. Price can do the same, just as wladimir did too. He's got a long road but it's possible.
The Heavyweight division has always been somewhat of an enigma considering it's the only division where an opponent can legally out-weigh you by 50lbs, the only division where you can be a career athlete in another sport (Baseball, Football, Basketball) turn pro at an advanced age and have a relatively successful career, and it's the only division where you're arguably two-three knockouts away from a title shot.
So, to answer your question, is David Price finished, personally, I don't think so. The division is and for the most part has always been pretty shallow and like I mentioned above he's always two-three fights away from being right back into the picture. It would be a different story if we were talking about someone like Amir Khan who can't really afford another loss right now, but were not.
David Price might have to get the Hell out of England and find him a trainer that knows how to develop Heavyweights. Developing a Heavyweight fighter isn't like developing a regular sized Boxer, imagine a guy who's 5'ft Trying to work pads with a 7ft 300lbs fighter...its a certain level of intellect needed. He's fine, line him up a couple of Taxi Drivers to get his confidence back and in a year or two he'll be alright.
These are the cold hard facts:
1) Price has as much movement as a bag of wet cement - When he gets rocked, he can't dance around his opponent and hide behind his jab... This is a basic requirement at domestic level, not to have this attribute at world level competition is career suicide.
2) Price bottled it..! - Dress it up how you like, Price was scared coming into the ring, he had no confidence.
3) Lennox Lewis conditioning him.....WTF?? Great boxers don't make great trainers. What makes Lewis capable of steering a confidence smashed heavyweight back into the ring to face his nemesis?? How did he eradicate his demons? - Simple answer - He didn't.
4) How did Price run out of gas less than half way through the fight..? This is criminal. Either the training camp was bad,or the mental approach ignored, I guess both. What ever - It is truly shocking preparation for a fight of this magnitude.
5) The night was a disaster... Price got destroyed, Moloney ended up in tears, Lennox Lewis was abused by Tyson Fury.... All on national television (boxnation). Price must be in bits, how can h face the public again... He couldn't shake what Tony Thompson did to him the first time, now he has the entire boxing community berating him...
Answer - Price is finished.
I thought the same thing about Vladimir Klitschko after he got KOed by Lamon Brewster and Corrie Sanders ,i thought Vladimir was finished as a elite fighter before he switch to trainer Emmanuel Stewart.
Maybe David Price should also switch trainers ,maybe one that will improve on his defense.
As far as a world class HW...no. Thompson has KO'd twice. He has failed the step up test and his make up exam. He needs to slowly work on his craft in Britain, get a defensive minded trainer, and try to rebuild his confidence and the public's imagination... His stock was severly hurt this weekend.
Price should quit. He is like 30 and he just got stopped twice in a row. Boxing is not the sport for him...
He's white he will get other chances if he wants them.If the same thing had happened to Seth Mitchell he would have been finished.
Some might say
ok price got blasted out again by tony thompson and again looked like a novice rather than world beater . i have never really liked price he has no boxing rhythm and is robotic but he is big and he can punch .
i think we all jumped on the bandwagon a bit just because he's 6'9 and at 30 years old he's hardly a young fighter .
i don't think price has it in him to fight at a lower level to build himself back up and i wouldn't be surprised if he calls it a day and retires .
i think price should be an example of it doesn't work looking for giants then turning them into boxers like seth mitchel as well , you need to find boxers first not just try to train a big guy to fight .
