Do you think Floyd Mayweather will retire undefeated?

Posted at: 2015-04-20
I think he will have temporary retirements where he leaves undefeated but i do not think he will end up undefeated in the end of the day.

I think money and age will make him enter a loosing streak.

Floyd Mayweather has a gambling and spending addiction. He likes to live flamboyant but that will cost him, I've seen billionaires go broke and they spend less than Floyd.

Jack Johnson was the highest paid athlete of his day, he eventually went broke and fought well past it.

Joe Louis was the highest paid boxer of all time in his day, he went broke.

Muhammad Ali & Sugar Ray Leonard were also the highest paid athletes ever in their day, both went broke but Ali luckily fixed his luck early and got sponsors.

Mike Tyson & Oscar were the highest paid boxer ever in their day, Tyson went broke but Oscar made a successful company.

Floyd Mayweather is the highest paid athlete of his day. His company isn't successful outside of himself and he has no sponsors.

Sponsors is what keeps guys like Michael Jordan wealthy after retirement.

I predict Mayweather retires, goes broke, makes comebacks and gets destroyed by younger fighters who won't be the best of their day, but Mayweather defenately won't be in his best

Floyd Mayweather picks his own opponents - (The lottery as he calls it).

Assuming that Mayweather is a logical thinking man, I would assume that he wouldn't want to walk into a no win situation - That's if one exists of course...

What is left on his contract... 3 or 4 more fights...?

That could be translated to Khan, Maidana, Garcia & Pac..???

Mayweather has got a good chance of being victorious in all the above fights... Maybe?

Ok.. Khan's speed could overwhelm Mayweather (unlikely), Maidana could pummel Mayweather into submission (Unlikely), Garcia could pull some Philly magic (Unlikely), Pac could outbox him... (Who knows)...

Mayweather could retire undefeated, but it won't be no walk in the park...

That cherry picker only cares about money. He even admitted it himself that he does not care about legacy or belts, just the money. Whoever generates the most money (excluding pac) will be his opponent which translates into a questionable undefeated record. Also, he would retire a very rich man.

He has got four move fights in his Showtime contract between now and next year. Assuming a two fight a year schedule for him barring any injury or another domestic/personal snafu on his part, who are his possible foes? This year, the most likely candidates considering the still existing Top Rank/Arum-GBP/FLOYD cold war could include Amir Khan, welter co-champions Marcos Maidana and Shawn Porter and junior middleweight co-titlist Erislandy Lara, all of whom are with GBP. Next year, assuming he does not renew with Top Rank, among the prime candidates is Manny Pacquiao but that depends whether he beats Tim Bradley this year for their WBO welterweight rematch. If Pacquiao loses again to Bradley, it could be Bradley but that depends on Arum releasing him to fight in a sure GBP-led promotional card. Other than Manny or Bradley, the other possibles include Danny Garcia, Keith Thurman and James Kirkland or Demetrius Andrade assuming they continue to win impressively.

Given that line-up of possible foes, I think Floyd would still finish 2014 unbeaten but not without some troubles and difficulties especially against Cuba's Lara near or by year-end. But 2015 would be a real challenging year for him as he would be pushing 40 by that time and could be tested and threatened by any of Pacquiao/Bradley, Garcia, Thurman and Kirkland.

I think Floyd would cement his greatness and elite status as he hangs up his gloves for good by taking on and beating any of those guys.

That's the big thing beside money that he cares about, so he'll pick easy, or boxing plan to conquer his next few opponents to hit 50 undefeated fights.

People thought as highly of Roy Jones as they do of Mayweather now. He'll slow down and get knocked out soon. It probably would have already happened if he fought the best contenders he could have.

I can't see how people can call Floyd mayweather a cherry picker. They think Dela hoya, Canelo, Juan marquez, Shane mosley, and Cotto was easy fights? I don't care who feel offended but this forum is filled with Mayweather haters and Pacquiao lovers.

They love to hate on one Man.

Very likely, but i think he will fight Pacquiao for his very lost foyt.

yes, as long he duck fighters like pacquiao.. he will be undefeate..

or fight only bum fighter..

Yes, he wont fight anyone who poses a risk to his record.
