No they are not trying to pack on muscle like bodybuilders. Find a boxing gym and a knowledgeable boxing trainer and quit wasting time lifting weights if you want to be a boxer http://www.boxinggyms.com/
Hey there, I've been training and competing Boxing and MMA for 3 years now.
First of all: Why would you want to be muscular? You know that "Big Muscle = Strong" is not true, right? And having bigger muscle will make you heavier, unless you want to fight in higher weight class.
Second: Protein is not a "Magical powder that gives you muscle". Protein is a CARB. You shouldn't need proteins if you can take 3 meals a day. They will just turn into FAT instead.
So my answer is NO. Just make sure to eat healthy 3 times a day and train HARD.
Common sense is your best friend. Muscle mass is not the most important thing for a boxer lol
Protein powders are a rip off
I get more bang for my buck
