You have a valid point... I can recall countless 'criminal' verdicts. There has always been the case of the 'home town' decision - That's a given.
I can understand Matthysse thinking that a knockout is the only way... Sad, but true.
I don't think the judges are audited enough.. It seems that once you make the grade as a boxing judge, there is no more evaluations... You carry on until you retire?
Judges should be evaluated, just like any other profession... If you are given a free run.. Sooner or later, you become complacent... Complacency brings weakness... Weakness becomes suseptable to bribes and criminal activity..
Matthysse always had the potential to knock out everyone he faced thats just the kind of fighter he is. However he is two bad decisions away from being undefeated with a spectacular knockout ratio. Even if boxers wanna gun for the knock out truth of the matter is they don't display the kind of power to do so without putting themselves in a position to get knocked out.
Its always good for boxing for guys to go for knockouts its the kind of thing that fills up the venues and gets the PPV numbers. If you ask if people would rather watch Mayweather or Pacquiao because of the knockout potential most will say Pacquiao.
Yes clearly they did. I do agree also that it is good for boxers to have that mentality but it is not good what has to happen to get it. Judges should be competent enough to score a boxing fight. It's there profession and they get paid ALOT of money to do it. Quite frankly I could grab any local drunk at a bar on fight night and generally they can score the fight much better than a judge does. I agree with Eddie F that judges should have to renew their liscenses every few years. Also, remember that judges have a different vantage point then us. I would actually like to see judges moved to a luxery type of suite ABOVE the ring for a better angle with TV replays on hand. That way you can ensure a good vantage point.
lucas mathysse says no way is he leaving the decisions to the judges following his losses to alexander and judah which were robberies imo,he now goes out to rip the heads off his opponents and is being soto, ajose, dallas, some guys in argentina, and now peterson all by knockouts.do you think it will be good for boxing if fighters would have the same mentality as mathysse.
