People mistake Mayweather taking his time to figure out his opponent and adjust for him struggling.
Look at his fight with Zab Judah. People say that Judah made him struggle but then after like the 4th round or so Mayweather was dominating him.
Look at the Miguel Cotto fight. Mayweather was having trouble hitting Cotto and he made the adjustment of looping his right hand and then the left uppercut that nearly put Cotto down.
Against Hatton, he spent half the fight figure out openings. Then he landed his right hand at will.
Mayweather never really struggles and it won't be any different this time. The only thing Alvarez has that can give Mayweather problems is his size and power. His skills are nowhere near Mayweather's level.
I agree w/ Andrew, except for the wanting Canelo to win thing.
Like he said, I'm not knocking Alvarez, but he's too basic to beat Floyd. He hits harder than Mayweather, and he's bigger. Those are his only two advantages.
He can't outbox Floyd, he can't outhustle Floyd, he can't beat him in any category other than the two I mentioned.
Floyd is smarter, faster, more technical, better defense, more experienced, and could go 15 rounds without a sweat...unlike Canelo who was horribly gassed in the Trout fight.
Overall, I love that this fight was made b/c it's probably the biggest in the sport, but being such an easy fighter to read makes me think this will be a field day for Mayweather.
If Floyd is content to focus on boxing (like against Guerrero, and he looked great), he wins a wide decision.
If Canelo gasses badly like in the Trout fight, I don't think Floyd lets him off the hook and takes advantage. Canelo doesn't have good defense in general, it's average at best.
I think a freakishly precise fighter like Floyd can hit him at will, and if Canelo gets really tired, I would put money on Mayweather smacking him around and getting a stoppage.
Mayweather looked better than ever against a bad opponent who suited his style. I thought Canelo's fight with Trout was very close and I'd probably pick Trout to win a rematch. I don't think Floyd will have much trouble with Alvarez. I'm not saying he is a bad boxer, I just don't think he has the talent to trouble Floyd. I would like nothing more than for Canelo to beat Floyd, but I just can't see it happening.
I agree with you but it caught my attention when you said it would be tougher than De La Hoya and Hatton. Floyd has never ever had any trouble with any fighter except for Castillo, but then he rematched him and dominated him.
I see the fight going either 2 ways.
Floyd by decision
or
Canelo by miracle lol
Thumbs up to most of the above answers, I agree, Floyd will have the toughest night of his career with Alvarez, but should still be the heavy favorite, Alvarez will be a very live underdog with far more than a punchers chance at an upset.
You are a dumb a$$
Haha I'm kidding. I didn't just want to put, Canelo vs Mayweather like everyone else.
Anyways about the fight, it's a tough fight for Floyd. Canelo can box, brawl, counterpunch, etc. He showed us that against Trout, and Mayweather looked better than ever against Guererro. I'm on the fence about the winner. Floyd is obviously Floyd, but at the same time, this will be tougher than Dela Hoya or Hatton. I'm glad Floyd took the fight, really challenging himself finally. The Pactard in me wants to say, so Floyd can fight Alvarez 2 pounds lower, but Pacquiao can't fight Cotto 2 pounds lower? It's a reasonable weight though, 152 since Canelo is so damn big. Two pounds isn't a huge difference at all. Props to Golden Boy for getting the deal signed and Floyd to be flexible with the weight.
Who wins, how, and will Canelo be the first?
