You are going to have a very hard time doing so. You are starting at a old age and have done drugs. Depending on how much effort you put and if you lay off the cigar, you have a small chance of becoming a great. Keep in mind there are pros that have been pounding people since they were toddlers. There are fighters like Sergio Martinez that have started at a old age. Just train hard and you may one day become a pro.
If you really want to do it professionally you need to get started and I think you need to give up smoking - if you want to reach a high level. I go the gym and train hard but still smoke so I think you can be fit and smoke. I like to have a cigarette after coming out of the gym and I know a few others who do to but the majority don't but I don't want to be a professional.
That said you see on the net or in the papers sometimes sportspeople like football and rugby players getting pictured smoking so some of them get away with it
if i'm being honest the fact that you would even ask this question tells me you havn't got the desire needed to go far in this sport. You cannot smoke unless you only wanna fight at club level for.that you would even ask just shows you are not serious.
you can sit there thinking you wanna box but actually having the determination to put your body through years of torture and keep coming back for more is a different thing all together.my prediction is you would last 6 months tops before you started missing training and that would eventually lead to you flopping all together.
boxing week in week out is a very stressful thing.you need to want it and you don't want it enough.think about all the other men out there who live in poor country's and fight for bread.do you really think someone who has to ask others if they can box and still smoke has the right mentality to contest with all the hungry fighters out there?
Unlike some sports it is possible to be successful in boxing even if you don't start when your very young. Obviously you will have to quit smoking without question or else the dream will be over you also need to find a gym and start working very hard. Good Luck
Cigarettes and sports are Not a good mix. You won't last 5 min once the cardio and training begins if you smoke. You'll sweating balls, dehydrated, and tired in less than 5 min. I am not exaggerating here, boxing training is no joke. The training is tough as nails. You must quit smoking and or you'll have serious serious breathing problems.
Some boxers have had great success starting late, such as middleweight champion Sergio Martinez who started boxing at 20, but you have no chance if you continue to smoke+ no one has on record died from nicotine withdrawals.
Unfortunately not I've done some research where professional tournaments like UFC requires a drug test to be an official.
No you need to stop smokeing. You wont be able to train properly or anything and nobody will take you seriously if they see you smoking and you stink all the time. Give them up or just forget about it.
As someone already eluded to, Ricardo Mayorga did it. He'd even light up inside the ring during the post fight interview.
OK, well i have always wanted to box professionally, fighters like Lennox Lewis and Floyd Mayweather made me want to dream big.. i wasted my life by starting smoking cigarettes and putting on weight.. not too mention i haven't had any professionally boxing training previously but now i'm 20 this month i really want to start and try and accomplish my dream.. my question being; am i too old to start and will smoking and being slightly overweight prevent me from ever lacing professional gloves? Please be truthfully honest.. Thanks in advance :-)
ask that question to EL MATADOR LOL
