Yes, going to the gym is definitely a good idea. But you don't have to delay getting into boxing - you are under no obligation to get yourself in shape before you start. You'll suck at first no matter what shape you're in.
Boxing is a full body workout, so you should train every muscle group in your body. Avoid fancy machines and stick mainly to compound movements that work multiple muscle groups at the same time. Squat, deadlift, bench press, military press, power clean, power snatch, push press, pull-ups, dips and rows.
As for cardio... it has to be said: most boxers don't know what they're doing here. A boxer requires a different kind of fitness to a marathon runner. There is no point in going for long, slow, distance runs. Boxing is fast-paced and mostly anaerobic. Focus on middle-distance running, sprinting and interval training (Google HIIT and Tabata).
Run for distance, in my experience most people starting out have stamina issues and until you actually get into a gym and start learning proper from and learn what workouts you need to improve your weaknesses, strength training is of marginal value. However it's never too early to start working out for stamina, run at your ability level for distance keeping a steady pace, gradually increase distance and speed. HAve fun stay safe.
AS A SIDE NOTE: I also had some anger issues here and there, I tried yoga in addition to the boxing, it really helped.
If you go to a boxing gym near you they could get you into shape for real boxing since they are experts, or at least should be experts in boxing. I started boxing in a gym as a first time newbie and the people there got me into shape to start boxing in matches in less than half a year so ya.
first. i appreciate that.
answer pf,
actually muscles is more important for women.
because men fights long and harder. they have to be feet and have better stamina. a male fighters have to run to death and lose weight.
just light diet makes you ok.
on the other side,
so many woman boxers loses because they had really bad technique.
for ex. laila ali vs asa sandell or ann wolfe vs vonda ward.
by the way i really like female boxing. and i so many times watch trainings, sparring, fights.
i mean, defense defense defense.
note: early boxing means better reflexes and technique.i suggest start now.
Boxing is the best. Finde gym.
I want to start boxing next year. But I'm wondering if I should go to my school gym and work out so that I will be ready for boxing next year. I am a girl. please dont judge. I have anger issues and I was told a few options that could help and I picked boxing. But anyway. If you say go to the gym and work out what kind of things should i work on..stomach muscles, biceps, ect if you can answer this that would be helpful. thank you
