Absolutely, its a given. This fight is huge, we haven't seen this type of fight since Hagler, Hearns, Leonard and Duran used to put up mega fights. It is the type of fight that defines a career, and anything, I mean "anything" that can give a fighter an edge will be used. Man I can't wait for this one.
I don't even know whether or not their is a weight penalty in this fight, its Unlikely Mayweather would but he could just call it off.
Im not even sure why they are mentioning the 5-6lbs, he has a week its a non issue really. Go to the bathroom, sit in a sauna sweat a little over the week and he can get rid of it no problem, dehydrate to get rid of what little is left and rehydrate, 5 lbs is not a big deal for these guys.
If there was an option to just pay a penalty then I would say for certain just pay the penalty, even if the title is not up for grabs because of the weight a win over Mayweather is bigger then any title you could win.
So its a non issue if he wanted to lose it and if he doesn't all the better.
Sean,
Great question. Canelo should ignore the "Catch Weight" and for that matter refuse to be weighed in the night of the fight. Floyd did the exact same thing in his fight with Marquez, but there's nobody talking about that.
Canelo's team has made a couple of mistakes up until this point that aren't really worth mentioning, but if his team tells him to shed the extra pounds, they aren't as bright as team Mayweather claims. Canelo should come right at the Jr. Middleweight limit and pay whatever fine that his camped agreed to, this could only work in his benefit.
Thanks Sean
If I am in Canelo's shoes, I will...
Let's see how would Floyd reacts if what he did to Marquez is also done to him.
I hope Floyd won't make it an excuse to back out from the fight.
Mayweather had done the same to his opponents in the past so i wouldn't blame Canelo for doing the same thing to Mayweather.
Karma.
If he can't make weight i'm sure he will. He won't risk it and he wont go in a sauna and drain himself the night before the fight like many oldtimers did.
Last time checked he was 157.4 I don't see why he'd ignore it.
Like Floyd did against Marquez? Maybe, if he thinks the weight will drain him I think he almost should.......
And pay from his purse?
