Boxing: What are you thoughts of Chad Dawson?

Posted at: 2015-04-20
Is he as good as he was viewed pre-Pascal? Or is he as bad as he seems in view of his losses to Pascal, Ward and Stevenson? Can he rebound?

Sean G how are you bro?

I always was a fan of "Bad" Chad Dawson followed his career and remember

who led him to win his first world title. Floyd Mayweather Sr. trained Dawson

and helped him prepare to defeat Tomasz Adamek back in 2007 and we can

all ask this question where did Chad Dawson go wrong? I think when Dawson

defeated Bernard Hopkins back in 2012 and thought he was invincible and he

made a huge error and mistake by calling out Andre Ward. He shouldn't have

done that Dawson was on top of the world, defeating the lineal 175 Champion

at Light Heavyweight and then, everything just fell apart for Chad Dawson him

choosing to fight Andre Ward at Super Middleweight was another error. Chad

should of never left his comfort zone weight class of Light Heavyweight and if

he would of just elected to fight Jean Pascal in a rematch rather than chasing

Andre Ward none of this would of happen because he suffered a much, more

devastating loss at the hands of Andre Ward compared to first loss to Pascal.

A lot of boxing fans are saying that he is just past his prime Chad doesn't look

to be "shot" fighter at this point of his boxing career, he definitely needs to go

back to the drawing board and win a few tune up fights to gain his confidence.

I think Chad Dawson can rebound and get back on track and the KO loss isn't

that bad if you compare Andre Berto's loss to Robert Guerrero last year. We'll

have to see what Chad Dawson does in the future, this is what is going to then

determine what a true champion is made of, if Chad Dawson can get right back

on track into championship contention against all adversity and against all odds.

Dawson has been fighting differently for a while now. He has been fighting more Flat-Footed as of late. Look at his fight against Adamek. If he fought like that He would have given Ward a lot of problems, let alone Stevenson.

He's a high calibre fighter when he is fighting at his best, but for the past few years he just hasn't been the Bad Chad who was once a feared man at 175. I'm Not sure if he will ever be the same after suffering back to back losses (the last fight in particular).

I've never really been impressed by Chad Dawson. Adameck was a great victory for him, but for me he has made his name from beating old men. He's beaten Johnson twice, Tarver twice, and beaten Hopkins, all of whom were way past their prime when he beat them. Apart from those victories, he hasn't beaten anyone of note, while he has been beaten by Pascal, Ward and Stevenson.

Not all of this has been his fault. The Hopkins no contest slowed his career down a bit, then the fight with Ward is one that never should have been agreed to seeing as it gave Ward every advantage. For me Stevenson landed quite a lucky punch that Dawson didn't see.

I think he can rebound and I would like to see his team try to get a rematch with Stevenson as quickly as possible, because I believe he is a better boxer than Stevenson and will beat him in a rematch.

If not Stevenson then he should go after Shumenov who has expressed an interest in fighting him.

A really talented fighter, he's young, fast and skilled. As of late, he seems to be slipping. Suffering stoppage losses back to back, but I think Chad will be back. Even in the Pascal fight, I was really amazed with Chad's offense in the later rounds. There are lots of people saying that the drop to super MW took alot from him, and it seems true. He needs to find a trainer that would suit his style, and rededicate himself to training if he wants to come back. No more reckless decisions like in the Ward fight.

Dawson is a fighter so talented but so devoid of passion and emotion in both his wins and losses. How can one ever admire or at least be sympathetic with that kind?

It's a wonder how he was able to beat the likes of Glen Johnson, Antonio Tarver and Bernard Hopkins!

Can he rebound? Who cares? Boxing needs the comeback of somebody as half-hearted as he was in fighting and winning like a hole in the head.

Can he rebound? The majority of people would say yes, but to some people. It always depends on what are his next moves. He has to look around and see who is still by his side after 2 looses which being TKO'ed in the 10th and KO'ed in the 1st. He has to select the right opponents (meaning easy & beatable), its a must. For him right now, winning is much more important than entertaining.

As far as technique, might wanna change some aspects of his game. He might go from entertaining to boring but then again, get enough wins first. Then entertain later.

From a boxer's point of view. There is no point of being exciting if you always get dominated and humiliated.

It's never quite that easy. Dawson has great skills but his temperament and dedication to the sport has always seemed off. Say what you will about Mayweather's attitude and behaviors or Hopkin's age, or Maidana's boxing skills, those 3 have a dedication to the sport that keeps them at the top of the game. Dawson, even at his best never really showed that type of commitment. He is good enough to be elite in terms of talent. His level of dedication has been the missing ingredient.

I think he has the talent to be great. He just isn't there mentally. Kind of like Zab Judah.

Is he as good as he was viewed pre-Pascal? Or is he as bad as he seems in view of his losses to Pascal, Ward and Stevenson? Can he rebound?
