Yeah, I think that night, Marquez was lucky.
In their four fights, only in this fight Marquez managed to succesfully knocked down and eventually knocked out Manny Pacquiao. He never managed to do once in the previous three fights.
As you can also see, Marquez was way behind on scorecards during this fight. Pacquiao outboxed him all night long, except for Round 3 where he got knocked down. Even in Round 6, Pacquiao would have won the round had he not getting KOed.
You can see Marquez KOed Pacquiao with just 1 second left in that round. Pacquiao never think Marquez would land anything big with only 1 second left. That's a big mistake, and Pacquiao doesn't protect himself well. This leaves a great opportunity for Marquez to land a punch as hard as he possibly could that KOed Pacman. That's just a lucky punch. Pacquiao just made a big mistake. Boxers had to always protect himself, no matter if only 1 second left in the round. Anything unexpected like this can come out of nowhere.
One more thing, Marquez was never known as a KO artist. Marquez was known as a counter puncher who wins mostly on decision or TKO (but quite rare). This all proves that night was a complete fluke.
No. That would mean he was lucky the first 3 fights as well because he countered Pacquiao in all 4 fights. Pacquiao just didn't see the one that knocked out coming. He hit him with the same punch more than once during the 4th fight. He hurt him more than once. Pacquiao was hurting Marquez but Marquez kept his composure and took advantage of Pacquiao's aggression like he did every time they fought. He did the same thing after he was knocked down by Pacquiao. He came in for the attack and immediately got hurt.
No.analising fights 1-4 it's clear to see that marquez has always countered pacquiao effectively.just because pac was able to take those shots in the first 3 encounters dosn't mean it was a lucky punch.he did what he has always done, except this time pac moved straight onto the punch and the rest is history
We might as well ask, was Robinson lucky when he kayoed Bobo Olson and Gene Fullmer in fights he was losing? Was Mike Weaver lucky when he iced John Tate in the dying seconds of their 15 round heavyweight title fight?
Of course, not. A knockout happens because of a confluence of events and circumstances in boxing, including errors, miscalculations and foolishness. There's no lucky punch. If there is, I think it's only true with neophytes or beginners who have not much idea of their weaknesses or strengths. Both Marquez and Pacquiao are grizzled vets and they were fighting each other for the fourth time!
If Marquez did not fell and badly shaken Pacquiao with that same right, although an over-reaching one in the earlier round, I would be tempted to say that Marquez just got "lucky" with that right. But no, it was Pacquiao and his corner that failed to recognize the red herring.
If there's one grievious error that a boxer can commit inside the ring, that's having full faith in one's taking power and grossly under-estimating the opponent's capability to take you out with a well-placed blow to the chin. Pacquiao should have been amply warned after getting knocked down hard for the first time in their fight with that reaching right. But...
BTW, it's not the first time that Manny was kayoed cold. And that's another reason for him not to be so in love with his own taking power in that fateful fourth fight with Marquez.
Not lucky, punchers chance haha.
And of course fighting a southpaw the right hand is effective if you're orthodox, even more effective to Pacquiao as a slugger who comes in and charge.
Look at Mayweather-Guerrero, Mayweather often used the straight right. It works effectively against southpaws. Marquez just got the punchers chance with the perfect timing when Pacquiao came in to charge.
yes I think so lucky shot pac was winning for the most part I also got a word that marquez was using energy drinks and pills but nothing too bad.. I don't really get why 2 opponents should have 4 fights in the first place 1 or 2 is nuff
Marquez replied that he practiced that punch on the gym and even dropped a sparring partner twice doing that. And he's a counter puncher. There is no such thing as a lucky hit on boxing. You're hit you're hit he lost pactards needa get over it.
WS Historian: JMM has 55 wins, 40 by KO.
there's no such thing as a lucky punch in boxing. obviously if a fighter delivers a punch, it's because he intends for it to land. during the exchange leading up to the ko, you can see marquez coil his right hand like a cobra waiting to strike. pac charged forward just as marquez anticipated and he was greeted by a face full of leather courtesy of dinamita.
How about you tell me or all of us? you got 35% best answers?.
Why or why not?

Yes Sean.... Marquez was lucky to have been given 4 chances against Pacquiao. Not everybody got that too much chances.
What I want to point out Sean is that Pacquiao made his azz vulnerable to Marquez. Pacquiao became complacent not knowing that he became Marquez's obsession.
The old quote that goes something like, "if you fail once, try and try until you succeed". Well, Marquez failed not once but thrice.
This is the biggest mistake Pacquiao did in his boxing career aside from politics, acting and religion.
pac wasnt even talking about that roided righthand that fragged pac on the 6th round man...
paul magno misinterpreted pac's carabao english bigtime, he merely said " jmm got a lucky break in that fight".... doesnt exactly mean "a lucky punch"...
but he was very lucky indeed, why??? cuz pac's camp was a mess that time... pac made a lot of mistakes and seems out of focused.... man he's even lucky he got that 4th fight, cuz it's useless, they already proved counter punchin is effective against a low-conditioned pac, jmm's punches cant hurt pac, pac cant KO jmm either but can outscore his counter punching by flurries and volume punches, jmm's style needs to over-power pac to convince the judges, by that views alone, not to mention jmm was almost 39, a 4th fight will be stup!d... but hey, pac's an enigma and mexico have to answer one last time, and their answer:herediaaaaa, everybody here knew "what heredia did to jmm" at the back of their heads, damn it! so stop fooling yourselves!!
