Boxing: The Pacquiao/ Mayweather double standard...some explain this?

It can't be explained.

Floyd Mayweather moves up in weight to fight De La Hoya at his best weight when Mayweather was 30 and De La Hoya was 34. Mayweather gets criticized for fighting an "over the hill" De La Hoya. Then Pacquiao, 29, fights a weight drained 35 year old De La Hoya and he gets praised for it.

Mayweather fights Mosley who was coming off a TKO win over Margarito, who had never been stopped before, and he was rated #3 Pound for Pound and ranked #1 Welterweight. Mayweather fights and beats him and he is heavily criticized for it but then Pacquiao fights an older Mosley who was 0-1-1 and he gets praised for it.

Pacquiao also fights Clottey, a nobody who lost to Cotto, and Margarito who was stopped by Mosley and wasn't ranked in the Top 10 of any list. He gets praised for that too.

Mayweather fights Victor Ortiz and Robert Guerrero, both of which moved up to Welterweight and made a statement and he is heavily criticized for it when he was just giving the people what they wanted. Pacquiao decides to take on Rios, a bum who lost his last fight and has never fought at Welterweight, and yet Mayweather is more criticized than Pacquiao.

Sean you're becoming obsessive with this Mayweather thing. C'mon, you have such great boxing knowledge, stop dwelling on things like this. Every boxer ever can be critisized in some way for match-making. It's only natural in a sport where there is no schedule. Pacquaio fought Margarito, a guy Mayweather never even entertained to fight. Pacquaio just took a fight with a guy much smaller than him. Mayweather made Marquez go up in weight to fight. We could go on and on about the both of them. Let's just stop. Mayweather is the greatest fighter in the world and one of the greats, but please don't make the argument that Guerrero was a great fighter for Floyd. Guerrero beat Andre Berto. Wow...Congrats to him. Berto is a good fighter but that's in. He is hardly world class. Each fighter gets critism. Both are great. It comes with the territory. Move on.

for as far back as i remember all of Mayweathers opponents have been worthy.Gurerro is one of many who has deserved their fight.

at the same time comeback fights are comeback fights.i wouldn't knock manny if he took a fight with the queen.same goes for floyd if he was ko'd in such fashion

Mayweather never really puts on a great fight. I guesse people don't like boring lagging fights. Pac always puts on a great fight.

Just like Mike Tyson compared to James Toney. Tyson puts on an exciting fight most of the time. Toney's style is very boring to most.

Don't listen to the haters. People want to believe Mayweather isn't really as good as he really is. They are just lying to themselves cause they don't like the man.

When history looks back.

Floyd will be ranked up here.

Manny will be ranked down here.

sean you are becoming as bad as any pactard has ever been if floyd farts you will describe it as a thing of beauty . let it go mate there are other boxers and everything floyd does isn't brilliant just as what ever manny does isn't .

but lets just try to be a little bit unbiased here .

and what about the time in late 2011..when pacquaio faced marquez..and mayweather took on the legendary,warrior,superb,great,god-like victor ortiz.

i wasnt on the forum at the time..but i bet you were saying victor ortiz would be a tougher competition than marquez!

mayweather is a good hype job...pacman would beat him...khan would prob beat him...if mayweather beats any of these two esp khan (who i suspect has the stlye to beat money believe it or not) i will give him his due....anyway mayweather never beat anyone really good really well...it was all points, sd's, uds, punching during make up routines etc.

hahahhaha your beginning to sound like americasfavoritethugs sean....hahahahahhahahahhahahaha...

Some Mayweather critics here have harshly criticized Mayweather's opponents, especially Robert Guerrero. He was a guy who was 3-0 at Welterweight and beat up Andre Berto (a top 10 welterweight). He was on a hot win streak. He was the WBC's top contender.

Pacquiao announces he is fighting Rios... A guy from a weight class below. He never fought at 147. He lost his last fight and won a gift vs Richard Abril at 135.

How is it that Mayweather gets more criticism than Pacquiao.
