Sr says he's done enough.

then sometime in the future they'll try to hail him...

but true boxing fans is always there to ask who's the best during his time?, cus their study shows its pacquiao but cant find the name in his boxrec... then theyll quote mike tyson's "the best fights the best"

Boxing is a huge part of Floyd Mayweathers lifestyle ,he was born around boxing ,he as ate ,breathed and dranked boxing his whole life ,plus ,it's his main source of income and he loves money too much to retire any time soon.

He hasn't been plagued with injuries nor has he show any real signs of slowing down yet ,so why would be NOT want to keep doing what he's been raised his whole life to do.

My opinion.

If he's not fighting Pac, then he should GTFO from boxing.

no way. there's still 'bred' in the boy...let em entertain us a bit longer

Why should he retire when he have 3 fights left??

I think he'll reward us with 2 more years of fights. Get ready because he is not going anywhere until his contract with Showtime expire.

His legacy is not done until he retire.

He should retire, not for his legacy but for his health.

Mayweather has done more than enough to earn boxing fans respect.

With that said; most boxing analysts will criticize him for retiring without making some of the biggest fights out there.

I feel many fans keep criticizing fighters until they loose.

Rocky Marciano had more pro fights than Floyd, he retired undefeated and many criticize his era or his retirement.

Chavez was criticized in USA even when he was 90-0.

Mayweather should retire but I don't think he will because of his spending habits.

Sad truth.

Yep and focus on signing better fighters to his company

I would like to quote directly from the article as it is my same sentiment:

Legacy is an interesting thing in boxing. The chase to be recognized as the greatest boxer of all-time often leads to fighters never knowing when to pull over, take the keys out of the ignition and call it a career. Instead, most push the engine beyond its limits and run out of gas. All it takes is one ill-advised decision on the path to greatness and everything that you have worked so hard to accomplish can go up in smoke.

In Mayweather’s case, assuming that all goes as planned and he finishes his contract with Showtime in September of 2015 unbeaten, his record will stand at 49-0. If he were to walk away from the sport at the age of 38, what he accomplished would be unprecedented in boxing. Mayweather would be just shy of a 19-year unbeaten streak. That is something that no fighter – not Rocky Marciano, Joe Calzaghe, or Ricardo Lopez – can lay claim to. Floyd Mayweather would not only retire undefeated but will have maintained the longest reign of dominance in the history of boxing. Better yet, good luck trying to find a reign of dominance that compares to Mayweather’s in any sport.

May I add: yes, I think he ought to retire after finishing his five fights contract with Showtime. He could beat Pacquiao and Garcia and end up with a 50-0 record but I have a strong feeling that his critics will still not give him credit, choosing to come up with alibis why he isn't deserving.

He's going to next year presumably. And he should. Dude's gonna be 38, topped the P4P list for 16 straight years, and has made an ABSURD amount of money. Mayweather's got no real reason to continue after his Showtime contract is up, why wouldn't he want to leave on top? It's time for the young guns to shine. And it's horrible to see when a fighter just doesn't know when to quit.

Yes, he should. There's no one left to face, he crossed the finish line when he saw off Saul Alvarez this time last year, I don't know why he's continuing.

Well, of course he has that contract with Showtime and CBS so I suppose that's why, money as usual, but yeah the old man is right, Floyd Mayweather Jr has done enough, he should retire, he's been P4P king for years, he's got $500,000,000 in the bank, he's undefeated and no one currently operating at 147 or 154 have the tools to solve the conundrum.

Sr says he's done enough.

He should unless he can give us a fight against an opponent who have a chance of giving us something to talk about. Maybe he should fight an Afro American who he haven't fought for quite a while now. He have been feasting on Hispanic opponent for quite sometime and a change could break the monotony.

He should for once listen to the pulse of the boxing fans on what fight and opponent we want him to fight. He even give the choice to his fans on who they want him as his next opponent but ignore and disrespect them later when the winner doesn't suit his preferred style.

It is not that there's nobody out there who can challenge him but his choices were the reasons why it's better for him to leave boxing alone.

People won't fully appreciate Mayweather until well after he's retired. That's the case with most great boxers. I think Sr. is speaking from a few different perspectives, mostly from the position of a concerned father.

.

Because he's so harsh in his judgement at times, people tend to forget that Sr. will always care for his son. No matter what has happened between them, there is a closeness that no one can come between. Sadly, many close to Floyd Jr. have tried. It's as if they want him to continue hating his father. Personally, I'm glad that Floyd Jr. seems to have risen above much of that. I think he recognizes how important his father has been to him, even when he wasn't always present. It's not difficult to see that they are very close. It's a great thing, IMO.

.

Although Sr. is obviously concerned for his son's well being, I don't think he believes anyone can beat Floyd Jr. However, I believe a loss would hurt Sr. just as much, or even more than it would hurt Jr. I think he's just being honest when he says "one loss and people will say Floyd ain't sh!t".

.

People are fickle and will have their say no matter what. At this point, I think the majority of Floyd's critics are just broke people and people who are unhappy with their lives.

.

Sr. is correct in stating that Jr. has nothing left to prove. He's not the GOAT. He'll never be placed above Robinson or ALI. However, anyone who can't at least consider him in the Top 10 or 15 at this point is probably not worth talking boxing with.

.

Floyd could retire tomorrow and it wouldn't change his true standing among the best. We don't count Robinson's losses after age 40.

We don't count ALI's loss to Holmes.

We don't count Leonard's KO loss to Camacho.

We don't count Jones' late career losses.

And, though it's not likely Floyd will lose, true boxing fans would still recognize his rightful place among the elite.

.

One thing for sure. Boxing will miss Floyd when he's gone.

If he retires who will carry the sport? I think he should still fight Manny & destroy him like he would of 5-8 years ago. Maybe fight Danny Garcia & maybe a rematch with Miguel Cotto. Nothing else out there.
