Valero usually wins by blitzkreig KO while Marquez is a slow starter who gets stronger as the fight gets to the later rounds where he usually wears down the opponent.
At lightweight, Valero stopped Antonio Pitalua ,Hector Velasquez and Antonio De Marco.JMM had better resume at 135 lbs. beating Juan Diaz, Michael Katsidis and Joel Casamayor who are superior than any Valero had fought at that weight.
JMM survives Valero's fast and strong start and takes the Venezuelan to the middle rounds where the Mexican takes control with effective counter punching and begins to cause damage with his more accurate punches.
A tiring Valero remains a threat up to the later rounds but in the 11th round, JMM catches him with a well-placed right hook as he comes in and floors him with a savage combination. Valero beats the count but JMM floors him hard with another left-right combo forcing the ref to stop the fight.
Valero never faced a fighter as complete as Marquez, I think Juan Manuel Marquez would have taken Valero apart.
i have to slightly disagree with novicesh!thead.. valero had a perfect KO record, so he had power, given valeros come forward style, he could be countered miserably by marquez but marquez lacked the power at lightweight that he has now. If he gets caught by valeros hits, it can be over but if marquez can muster enough footwork to move away from valeros onslaught, then he can get a pretty easy UD.
this fight is one of those you would pay to see.
Marquez easy win...Valero has the power but lack of technique...
@chief smoke a lot of p3nis
Valero only fight bums...g@y pride is not allowed in this section...only real man section...hahaha
I got to agree with Novicehakeem. Didn't Manny Pacquiao call Valero's opponents "tuk-tuk" drivers? He never fought any fighter even half as good as JMM, and JMM would give him PAIN.
Juan MAnuel Marquez vs Edwin Valero at light weight? Who wins?
