Yes, I found out earlier today. I was a little sad to hear the news. He was a great fighter, I wish him nothing but the best and hope he gets well soon.
I'm a big boxing fan so whenever I hear of a fighter being ill or passing, it puts me in a down mood.
Unfortunately, when athletes and others come from humble beginnings, they never learn to take care of themselves because, when money becomes plentiful, they want to have all the good food they were denied in childhood. Roberto Duran is notorious for this and is clearly in the 250 lb. range.
Growing up poor makes one want to eat well when they run into money. Larry, being the eldest of seven, played "bread winner" for much of his life. He HAD to play King and I guess he felt he was going to live like one because he earned it. He's EVERYBODY's big brother.
I'm glad it wasn't anything serious. I've met Larry a few times and I think he's a good man and a great champion.
I hope that Larry Holmes has a speedy recovery, he was a great World Heavyweight Champion. and starts taking better care of himself.
He is at home now. I am going to take better care of my self before a doctor tells me I need to lose weight or something worse.
First I heard of it.
