I guess that Bradley banked a lot of respect over the weekend... He was in trouble several times, and weathered the storm.
He picked himself up off the canvas and went toe to toe again... That's heart man!
I never really figured out why Bradley lost respect in the first place, he was the benefactor of a lousy decision and should have lost to Manny, but really how is that Bradley's fault? I guess life isn't fair no matter how successful you become. I am tempted to become a Bradley fan just because of the fan reaction and media derailment he suffered through after the Pac decision. Yes, he fought a tough opponent and acquitted himself honorably, what more can be expected of a fighter? He didn't gain anything, he just reaffirmed what we already knew about him.
I agree with Blogoba in that Bradley didn't really lose any respect because of the horrific decision he got against Pacquiao. It was a closer fight than it had to be because Pacquiao constantly had his foot off the gas. I certainly think that Manny won the fight fairly and was robbed, but Bradley is a confident fighter and as most fighters do (as we saw from Provodnikov's reaction to the decision) that he won. You cannot blame him. In any case, Saturday's performance was exciting and showed the level of ferocity with which Bradley will defend his title. He dug deep and gutted out a victory. I still think that he is vulnerable to a more skilled fighter with pop, but I expect that he will not go down easily.
I would have to say yes. This is because he fought offensively as opposed to focusing solely on defensive tactics as he did in the Pacquiao fight. If Bradley employed this more fan friendly fighting style in that last fight (win or lose) he would have been a bigger draw right now. We have to remember that the average viewer does not understand defense and you can't gain new fans that way. Mayweather and Marquez have employed a more offensive style as of late as well which only helped their ppv ratings. I love Bradley and also Provodnikov. Let us hope that their fight catapults the two of them to superstardom which they both deserve.
No, I never lost respect for the guy. If anything, I gained more respect and admiration for him for how he approached the Pacquiao fight, giving it everything and trying not just to survive but actually win rounds late in that fight. Tonight although he was a bit foolish in choosing to exchange instead of keeping his distance and taking advantage of his obvious speed and accuracy superiority, he showed tremendous amount of heart and willingness to take risks and put on a show.
I believe he did but if he keeps running his mouth about beating Pacquiao, I would say he would gain even more respect but imediately challenging Pacquiao. I respect him as a fighter, but I still see the media and some fans giving him sh!t.
At this moment though, I believe he earned back some lost respect and probably won over some new fans.
Ya he regained a little bit of respect. But he needs to fight better competition , unfortunately the way the boxing industry is these days it's hard to see the fights people want to see.
No one in there right mind should have lost any respect for Bradley because of the Manny fight. Bradley did not score the fight for him self it was the judges who awarded him the win.
YES. Lot's of respect in my book. And I think that was exactly what he was trying to do.
Chalk one up for Desert Storm.
