Boxing: Can Chad Dawson make a comeback?

Chad Dawson can make a comeback in terms of returning to the sport. But I don't think he will ever regain his status among the 175 lb. ranks. The odds are against a comeback because it's not very likely that he will be able to do what is needed to mount a successful comeback.

.

In order to make a successful comeback, Dawson would have to be very patient and take a series of confidence building fights. Most fighters don't have the time. Dawson has time but, like most fighters, he might not have the patience to do it.

.

It's likely that none of us can know what it's like to have been at the top of the boxing world as a professional. The 175 lb. division has never been the glamour of the sport. However, if you're at the top it's still an accomplishment that most people never reach. Having been there, it's very hard for most people to adjust once they lose it. It becomes very difficult to focus on what needs to be done to get back there.

.

It's very possible and likely that the division now has too much talent for Chad to succeed. However, it's more likely that he could still be successful based on his talent but that he would not be successful because he will lack the patience to do what's necessary.

.

Chad will have to take the next 18-24 months off from top level competition and rebuild himself. He has to fight in order to keep his name relevant. He's not ready to take on guys like Stevenson or Kovalev or Pascal. The odds are against that no matter what shape Chad can get himself in. However, if he has any chance at all, he will need to build himself again, almost from scratch. It's a long shot but it's Chad Dawson's only chance.

I agree w/ both Nightmare and Andrew, they made good points that I highly agree with.

Chad has a name, so like Andrew said I think he'll definitely get a big fight. Nightmare is also right IMO , I don't know if Chad can make a REAL comeback though.

A big fight is one thing, but can he comeback and be the elite fighter he once was? I highly, highly doubt it.

I don't see why not. He's still a name people recognise which will get him bigger fights. He should fight Cloud. Whoever wins will be back on the fringes of a world title, whoever loses would be pretty much done.

I doubt it very much. As champion, he hardly impressed with his lethargic almost morose personality and fighting stance. I personally think he should retire to save whatever is left of his legacy in boxing.

Maybe he can do better in MMA. He was good on taking down Hopkins.

I don't think so. He should've never went down to fight Ward.
