But a young prime Oscar would have made the fight truly be close. Split decision to whoever convinces the judges [likely with dollars].
If Mayweather is 24 as well? Floyd. Without question. People always seem to forget that when they fought Mayweather was no spring chicken either, he was in his 30s too. Prime Oscar had HUGE problems with a totally washed-up Pernell Whitaker for gods sake. Just imagine how much a mid-20s Mayweather would frustrate him.
Styles make fights. You can forget any excuses about Oscar's age in their actual fight. He held all the cards. Mayweather was no jr. middleweight. In fact, he was barely a welterweight. Oscar is naturally bigger and was natural at 154.
.
That said, I don't think Oscar's style or strategy would be any different. He fought a dumb fight because Mayweather got into his head before the fight. The only thing that is likely to change is Mayweather's performance. He would perform even better at 147 and would likely win more decisively.
