Nonsense. Just yesterday Floyd was on the cover of my local newspaper's sport page. Floyd is the only boxer who gets an ESPN magizine cover. He is the only boxer who would be on the cover of Forbes. He is the only boxer that would be in my daughter's Middle School yearbook (yes, Floyd was in there). If boxing was on life support, Floyd is the machine helping it live. The money his fights generate for Showtime, Golden Boy, and the City of Las Vegas proves it. Not only that but he is the reasons young fighters like Danny Garcia, Adrien Broner, and others are known...from Floyd's undercards. Also, the next generation of greats constantly point to Floyd as a role model...Ward, Porter, Broner, Canelo, etc.
You got it backwards

I think we can all agree that Sean has a huge man crush on Mayweather, but that aside, I live in the UK, and over here boxing is going from strength to strength, as it seems to be in mainland Europe too. Huge shows, big fights and a lot of up and coming talent who are ready to fight for world titles. The rest of the world don't really care about Mayweather. Most people outside of the US, or non boxing fans, don't know who he is.
He has polluted it for sure. Mainly by letting the cancerous influence of Al Haymon take hold. This is why Showtime has become a REFUGEE CAMP for coward boxers who are happier to fight against a lesser calibre of fighter twice a year rather than test themselves. How many times does Keith Thurman fight a year? If he was on HBO he would be a star already fighting 4 times a year. It's a joke, and a bit of a non-sport now the way things have gone.
Name a couple of good fighters that most deserve a fight with Mayweather that's not under Top Rank ,there aren't any that will create a "mega fight" or a mega payday ,no matter who Floyd fights ,he will be critsized because people so badly want to see him lose.
I believe that Mayweather has bought allot to the world of boxing with some of his earlier performances against the likes of Ricky Hatton and De La Hoya (regardless of whether he was past his prime). However, in recent years Mayweather has started to decline with his skill, he was lucky to pull of the win against Maidana, he has also started ducking fights *cough* PACQUIAO *cough* and he is really starting to become boring, leaving a bad taste in the mouths of many boxing fans.
I think that Floyd is separate from the rest of boxing.
His fights are just show cases.
Like the Harlem Globetrotters.
Floyd Mayweather is the Harlem Globetrotter of boxing.
His fight are the shows of a skilled fighter, but necessarily willing to fight dangerous opponents.
Floyd is to boxing as
The Globetrotters are to the NBA
How on earth is it possible for any one fighter to ruin an entire sport? You realize that there are thousands of other fighters out there, right? Next time try watching a fighter that ISN'T' named Floyd or Manny. It's a big world once you open your eyes.
floyd promotes american style of boxing, keeping himself undefeated is like saying to the world american slick boxing is supreme...they say boxing is hit and not get hit,,, thats kungfu boxing, the only way to do that is to look for certain opponents...
yea, avoid them that got too much power, if a swarmer/puncher's koing every opponent and the idea of fighting the guy one day spooks them, they' l cry PEDs lol
This guy claims to be the face of boxing. but as casual fans, wouldn't you turn to MMA after watching his performances? ... after all the constant cherry picking, the b#tching, gay/lame/ wwe theatrical antics, biased demands, racism, the hugging during the fight, the boring performance, the weak patting punches... You named it.
No! Floyd is boxing.
