Am I too unfit to start boxing?

I smoked from the age of twelve, I am now aged 60. I stopped smoking two years ago... I was an amatuer boxer - rugby player - marathon runner - i am still very fit and capable now. So smoking was something i simply enjoyed. However I would recommend you stop. I stopped dead, I did not cut down, i woke up one morning and said - no more smoking for me.... I admit I feel a lot better for it.

In regard to boxing .. you should simply train hard, there is no short cut or magic bullet to top fitness.

If you DO NOT have the discipline to make a stand and do something instead of talking the talk .. then you will not achieve anything.

For me the hardest part of doing a 5 mile run was stepping out my front door - the run was the easiest bit. So this is a state of mind. A self discipline. !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

DONT TALK >>> DO IT !!!!!!

Smoking damages the lungs - One of the main components a boxer relies on.

It's never too late to quit smoking, your body will heal over time.

Hard to say what damage has been done to your lungs so far, everybody is different.

"smoke 20 cigarettes a day".

Wow.

Um.

You should quit for the sake of your health.

not to ate but smoking will hold u back

So I'm 20 years old and I want to start boxing. I'm 5ft 9, 12 stone, can't run for that long and smoke 20 cigarettes a day at the minute. I was wondering if this sounds like I'm past it? Is 20 too late to start? I've smoked since I was about 15/16, so will this be too much of problem to even bother boxing?
