and if he couldn't then he settled in and started to box more, getting inside un leashing enough combos to win the round, he tore up the body and when he seen a guy about to welt he went for the kill. So the idea Ali only has to survive the first 3 rounds is not true.
Tony Tucker, James Smith went 12 rounds so Ali could beat him. Truth is Tucker and Smith did nothing but run and hold in an attempt to survive, when you have a professional boxer whos only motivation is to not get knocked out its very hard to put them away.
Its always Tucker and Smith that get mentioned as the guys who went the distance, when you should really look at Tillis and Green, Green did alot of holding but he did fight on occasion and some think Tillis won the fight. So you can say there are two guys who gave Tyson a go, both young, talented fighters in their prime.
So lets look at Ali opponents that went the distance, you have George Chuvalo who was a brawler and had none of the skill of Tyson, just iron resolve and an iron chin. You have a couple others in the early 60's that were much less of a fighter then Mike Tyson.
Ali could also be caught, his confidence sometimes got the best of him, so if guys like Cooper can deck him you can be sure Tyson could as well.
Ali did not fight well inside, so if Tyson gets in he could do some damage.
Ali was fast, reflexes and feet and hands, but Mike Tyson was actually the faster puncher of the two and could rip combinations faster then any heavyweight in history.
Both men had iron chins Id have a hard choosing between the two.
Both men had exceptional hand speed.
Both men had great stamina.
Tyson had the more devastating punches while Ali had the better reflexes.
Myth - Ali had the best jab in history! FAR from it, Ali's jab was a range finder and a means of distraction nothing more, he did not have a big strong fast jab that would stop Mikes assault to get inside. Ali could mess your face up as the fight went on and I think that Tyson too would have an eye swollen by the late second half.
It would take a alot of energy by Tyson to get in on Ali an catch him, I have no doubt he would though and do damage, the problem for Tyson is that the only thing stronger then Ali's chin was Ali's body.
Myth - Tyson did not have the mental capacity and would be beat mentally by Ali. Again this is not true and probably accredited to his outside the ring antics. Mike was historian when it came to boxing, he studied fighters and he was well aware of the mental edge in a fight, he was as good as Ali if not better at getting inside a fighters head. Where most fighters knew Ali was clowning, most fighters actually believed Tyson wanted to hurt them or kill them. So the mental game lets just say it void, Tyson may have been awed by the presence and confidence of Ali and Ali would certainly be intimidated by Tyson. Ali himself says he was scared going into his first fight with Liston and terrified to go in with Foreman, it was his will that made him do it and his showman ship that allowed him to hide his fear.
The fight would be insane for the first half, Tyson would win most of the early rounds maybe even dropping Ali once or twice. Once Tyson settles down slightly Ali could take over and pile up points, Tyson would bring his assault enough to win some rounds here and there. By the 9th round on Tyson would would be slightly dejected that Ali was still in there and would resign to his fate, Ali would pile up more rounds maybe every staggering Tyson late, Tyson would try one more assault in the championship rounds and again Ali would survive it and come back. After that its all Ali for the last couple, people would start to wonder if Tyson is going to make it. But he most likely would.
Muhammad Ali by Decision, but it could be close.
Muhammad Ali, this is the reason he would win and quite handily. We are talking about the Muhammad Ali that had just finished destroying Cleveland Big Cat Williams on Nov 14,1966, he knocked out Williams in 3 rounds. That Ali, was fast, blurry fast with his punches,,a very elusive opponent that could dance for 15 rounds if he needed to,without tiring or laying on the ropes. Ali could get into a fighter;s head, which Tyson would be at a disadvantage.. He stopped Charles Sonny Liston on Feb 25,1964, in the seventh round to win the World Heavyweight Title, He stopped Sonny in round 1 on May 25, 1965. He defended against Floyd Patterson, George Chuvalo, Henry Cooper, Brian London, Karl Mildenberger, and as mentioned Cleveland Williams, Ernie Terrell, and Zora Folley. Only Chuvalo lasted the full 15 rounds. Iron Mike has fought Trevor Berbick, James Bonecrusher Smith,Tony TNT Tucker, and an ancient Larry Holmes. Tucker lasted the full 15 on Aug 1,1987, at the end, his mouth was hanging wide open, he was exhausted, If Tyson had severe trouble with a James Buster Douglas and was knocked out by him in the 10th round, Ali would dance ,taunt ,and have Iron Mike falling over his feet unable to catch Ali. Tyson;s face would be cut and he would fall in about the 9th round, he would hit the deck, rise and Ali would be raining punches all over him, forcing the referee to stop the fight. Tyson's weakness will always be stamina. Power sometimes is not the only way to get it done, unless your opponent stands still for you to hit him
Don, wasn't Frazier the one who broke Ali's jaw?
Ali Vs Tyson, With both in their prime, Tyson would have to KO Ali within perhaps 4 rounds or Ali would KO Tyson within 5 to 6 rounds. If Tyson would get in close immediately and throw his left hook, I think he would KO Ali in 1st or 2nd round.
Look man tyson has the stronget hits ever BUT not faster and smarter Than ALI So i will go with ALI cuz his playing tech's will make TYSON tired and weak! And he will take the chance to ko tyson
Muhammad Ali.
Ali is in a wheelchair so I'm going with Tyson.
Ali first of all He's the greatest they don't just call him that for nothing and Joe Frazier is almost the size of tyson and Ali beat frazier so ALI!!!
Ali in hes prime would out box tyson all night unless tyson catching him and brakes his jaw like what Norton did to him.
i think tyson could hurt Ali but i think Ali would outbox him and win a decision.
Muhammad Ali for sure.
