Hello David.
Sir, Gene Tunney had all the tools to beat Mike Tyson. A great chin, boxing skills, heart, and courage. He wouldn't be afraid of Mike. The thing was that he was more of a Light Heavyweight, an all time great one. He spent the majority of his career there.
That's not to say that he wasn't a good Heavyweight. He was a fairly good Heavyweight that beat Jack Dempsey twice. He had a great chance at troubling Tyson with his jab and boxing skills. He was knocked down to the canvas by Dempsey though, and Tyson probably had more power than Dempsey. Mike was way bigger than Tunney and had amazing speed and power. He was ferocious.
Tunney will begin jabbing and boxing and it will frustrate Tyson at first. But then Tyson will begin to get Tunney into an inside fight, and he'll begin to hammer Tunney at will. In about the fifth round, Tunney will begin taking too much punishment, and the ref will stop the fight.
Tyson TKO5.
