Ricardo Lopez is by far the most skilled out of the undefeated crowd, yet he was so small that very few Americans outside of the boxing community knew who he was. It's crap that it has to be that way, but it is what it is.
Among the other more luminary fighters of the undefeated club, Rocky Marciano and Joe Calzaghe are the front runners. Neither of them defeated an elite fighter in their primes. Rocky was out of circumstance, however, Joe out of convenience which is why I would rate Rocky above Joe. Joe -could- have fought these men (including Jones and Hopkins in their primes): Tarver, Toney, Woods, Abraham, Froch and Ottke, who was another undefeated fighter in the SAME weight class! That alone right there screams towards the level of his opposition.
So Ricardo Lopez my a mile, followed by Rocky and Joe is a distant third behind Marciano. Any other undefeated boxer (not including Mayweather until he retires) is of relative little importance in the boxing community, or at the very least should be.
Listen guys Sven Ottke should at least have 5 loses on his record. He was a judges darling in Germany.
U know both Larry Holmes and Aaron Pryor retired undefeated but came back to receive som @$$ whoopin. BTW are Spadafora and Pirog retired yet? Not sure they'll make the top 5 but they were some quality fighters. Myung-Woo Yuh should've retired undefeated but was robbed in one of his final fights
Ur BQ: rivalries are what makes sports so great, there's lot to talk about and they push each other to their limits like Ali and Frazier did and make their fights more intense.
Ricardo Lopez was on a very small weight class, he wouldve never gotten his credit regardless cause his division never gets much spotlight. Marciano did have a rivalry with Jersey Joe but it wasn't nearly as big as Ali's or SRLs, but Marciano was huge in his time.
Joe Calzaghe, there were so many skepticism on his record as he fought most his fights in his hometown. He was the underdog against Lacy, thats how much people were skeptic of his record
Terry Marsh was a pure boxer and that style wasn't popular at all om the UK. BTW I think he could've been one of the top 3 to come out of the UK if it wasn't for the Frank Warren incident
1. Rocky Marciano
2. Joe Calzaghe
3. Ricardo Lopez
4. Sven Ottke
5. Jimmy Barry.
Rocky Marciano and Joe Calzaghe are two of the most popular champions in history. Rocky's name inspired Stallone to name the most famous boxing character of all time. Joe Calzaghe is the most famous boxer ever in the UK. You don't know what you are talking about.
1)Ricardo Lopez
2)Joe Calzaghe
3)Rocky Marciano
4)Sven Ottke
5)Jimmy Barry
BQ: Probably because they didn't fight the best or half there opponents were shot/past it.
