Would Ivan Drago have faced charges for Manslaughter?

Thats actually a good observation and question because he did push the referee away. If I had to guess I would assume that Apollo Creed's willingness to compete in a sanctioned Boxing match exempts Ivan Drago from any legal repercussions.

All kinds of injuries and complications happen as a result of Boxing or competitive sporting for that matter. Concussions, broken bones, limbs, mental disorders as a result of fighting, and its not just in Boxing it happens in MMA, Martial Arts, American Football, Rugby. I think it would be extremely hard to prosecute Any sport where there's physical contact.

We get questions about The Rocky movies so much in Boxing section that they (Rocky Questions) should have there own section. I loved the Rocky movies, but they're the most unrealistic representation of a Boxing match.

Any referee would've stopped those fights, the commission would've busted Drago for taking P.E.D's, and what people forget is that Apollo Creed was Drago's first pro fight, its no way Drago would've faced Rocky, The current Heavyweight Champion, in only his 2nd fight.

Back to your question; my best guess is that he'd just be disqualified for not stopping when the referee tired to stop the bout.

He -should- have been disqualified before he was able to kill Creed, though fighters sometimes get away with ignoring the ref without repercussion such as Tyson vs. Savarese. However, had Savarese died in the ring, I am sure that charges would have been brought up with Tyson for ignoring the referee when he was trying to stop the fight. Now back to Ivan, who was also using 'roids, he would have been banned and charges might have been brought up, but if he is in Russia at the time charges are brought up, I doubt the Russian government would turn him over to the Americans which means he wouldn't serve any time.

It may be old, but I can PROMISE YOU 30 years later it is not finished yet (I'll explain later). We were in the Cold War with Russia. How could we detain their Olympic boxing Gold Champion with out international turmoil? It was in the interest of the USA and our allies to let him go.

HOWEVER, Apollo Creed's grandson is talking about boxing. He is a rich kid, but wants to prove he is no joke. I bet anything he'll confront Ivan Drago, but not in a fight. Under the Iron Curtain, he was forced to serve his country. We will understand Drago in a few years.

Yes, in a real boxing match he would go to jail, but many men have killed in the ring fair and square thus they dont go to jail. Examples of ring murderers;

Sugar Ray Robinson, Ezzard Charles, Emile Griffith, Max Baer, Primo Carnera, among others.

No way dude.. Not if Saul Goodman was representing him :)

I know it's a movie, and I know it's a long time ago, but it's bothered me for years,

When Drago pushed the ref aside, and then proceeded to beat Apollo Creed to death, Would he have been open to criminal charges? It seems to me that he is obviously working outside of official guidelines at this point, and as such, surely causing the death of your opponent would be Aggravated Assault at the very least, and quite possibly Manslaughter, if not murder...
