I want to believe in Wilder but I just don't know. He surely has the power and size to accomplish a lot in the division, but until he steps in with better competition and is truly tested, we won't be able to tell. I'm just wondering why his people are still hesitant to put him in with better fighters at this stage of his career? Malik Scott was a bit of a step up from what he was used to but when you look at Scott's resume, it was just as bad as Wilder's in terms of top competition. Personally, I'd like to see Wilder fight maybe a Alex Povetkin, a Tony Thompson, or even a Derek Chisora, someone in the top ten before he goes for the winner of Stiverne vs Arreola. I'm sure it won't happen because he's already guaranteed the winner, but it would just be nice to see if he could blast out one of those guys early to, and truly earn a shot at the title. IMO he hasn't EARNED a shot because he hasn't beaten anyone on the top 10. He's getting the shot off reputation more than anything.
As you correctly stated - Wilder is untested on the big stage. We will never know what his true potential is, until he fights some top boxers...
Although he is knocking everybody out, and building an impressive record, I still have my doubts about him... Why are his team still placing second rate opponents in front of him...?? The bar has not beer raised at all.....
I also watched David Haye knock him around during a sparring session... That was a David Haye in second gear... he wasn't even full on sparring..
Time will tell if Wilder is the real deal or not... But I feel his team may not be confident in pairing him with a genuine heavyweight banger....??
Deontay wilder will fight the Arreola-Stivierne winner for a title eliminator. He will make a statement if he won because they're ranked Heavyweights.
I can't also help but see the similarities with the then young and uo and coming George Foreman who fought an assortment of overmatched foes including a blownup light heavyweight named Gregorio Peralta against whom he even struggled in two fights. But George proved that his punch can put away top rated foes as well as he did his lesser foes. I think Deontay also has that capability. As Dougie Fischer said, Deontay has the capability to kayo even the Klitschkos if he connects with his sunday punches.
We'll see. So many in my memory were touted as the next champ. Mac Foster was 21-0 with 21
KO's till he met a top rank Jerry Quarry and got KO'd himself. We'll see how he does under real pressure. Would love to see him real and bring the title home.
Yes he's clearly the best heavyweight I've ever seen, and to top it off he's got one of the best chins in boxing.
People say his opposition is weak, but those same people ignore the fact that didn't Wladimir's resume look Erie similar to that of young Wilders? Sure Wlad's resume is impressive but who did Wladimir fight in his first 31 fights that was much better competition than what Wilder has fought so far? Is Wladimir old news, and Wilder is the future of Heavyweight boxing? Or am I looking past Stiverne or Arreola?
