I follow boxing very closely. Regardless of what you see in Media, the main reason why Freddie Roach fired Alex Ariza was because Alex got too big for himself in his head when Roach's boxers started winning and rising in the Boxing World. The biggest star of them all was Manny Pacquiao. Roach said in a recent HBO interview how Alex tried to essentially "replace" him (Freddie) during training and instead of sticking to strength and conditioning, he (Alex) also tried to "Coach" Manny.
Anyone who knows anything about boxing is aware that Freddie Roach, Robert Garcia and Virgil Hunter are the 3 best Boxing Trainers in the USA (and hence the world) today. And no Trainer will take kindly to having some stooge (Alex in this case) trying to take over the house and tell the fighters how to fight.

They've always had a very volatile relationship. Ariza constantly had issues with Roach, and Pac's manager (or whatever he is) Michael Koncz, who Ariza got into a fight with at one point.
It got to a point where Ariza was doing things like giving Pacquiao instructions between rounds, and demanding he be Pac's cutman, things like that.
His job was strength and conditioning, not coaching or being a cutman. He was overstepping his boundaries, and Roach didn't like it (for good reason).
So he got canned. They were never really "friends" I don't think, and Ariza has always seemed like a complete douche.
Plus, Roach is always a cranky and almost belligerent type of dude, so sh*t like this is not surprising at all and was bound to happen.
I really think things started between them when Manny wanted to do Gloves with Freddie but Ariza kept saying he needed to do strength and conditioning training. Roach wanted him out 2 or 3 fights ago but it was Pacquaios choice to keep him. I don't think they ever really got along though.
They don't want to share the credit with each other in the phenomenal rise of Manny Pacquiao. Yet, one or both are engaged in finger pointing when Manny did not perform well. Who says crab mentality is true only with Pinoys?
I have never seen the both of them as best friends, not even friends.
All along I believe they had a dislike of each other.
