Why did lennox lewis retire instead of rematching vitali?

hes says hes got nothing to prove yet he lost credit and has been called a coward etc he should of rematched klitsko and knocked his *** out

I wasn't going to answer this question (maybe I shouldn't)?

Lennox Lewis & Klitschko both suck...? Are you serious?

I suggest that your boxing knowledge is limited at best. Lewis fought all competition around during his era - He avoided nobody, he fought them all.

The Klitschko brothers have cornered the heavyweight division between them, they have dispatched all challengers with relative ease... You can't ask anymore than that.

Everybody has opinions, but please, add a little fact to your statements.

Lennox Lewis promised his wife that he would retire after the fight, regardless of the outcome. He had also been originally scheduled to fight a push over named Kirk Johnson. Weighing the heaviest in his career and old, he couldn't do boxing anymore or risk severe injury. He had cleaned out the division in the late 90s, defeated nearly everybody, he had already earned his cred. Despite what klitards would have you believe at the time, Klitschko was unproven at the time, a prospect that had just gotten beat by Chris Byrd in embarrassing fashion, quitting in the 9th round, and many people had written him off. Vitali had to prove himself that he was still a contender, so when Johnson couldn't show up at two weeks notice, he jumped at the chance to prove himself. Lewis admittedly underestimated him, while Klischko was hungry. Klitschko fought hard, kept busier, but Lewis was throwing the harder punches, and by the time of the cut was turning the fight around and would have knocked him out in the later rounds.

Klitschko fans know that Klitschko's opposition is lacking, that Lewis is possible the only top-tier opponent he faced, and that he needs him to build his legacy up. If he had won the rematch, which is possible, that would have been a career defining moment for Klitschko, but there was none, and as it stands Klitschko lost to the only good opponent he ever faced.

Your ignorant opinion based on your own assumptions and backed by no facts annoys me. I too was not going to answer this questions on the grounds that your probably an idiot but Ill answer anyways just to show other people how little you know.

Q - Why did Lennox Retire instead of rematching Klitchko?

A - Lewis was originally supposed to fight butter ball Kirk Johnson, a fat lazy short light punching fighter and then retire. BECAUSE Lewis is such a great champion he said to save the PPV he would fight 6'7 tough as nails monster on only two weeks notice. He was 38 years old and was the heaviest weight of his career. He went in there and took the best Vitali had to offer and busted Vitali's face so bad he required 60 stitches. If an out of shape, 38 year old Lewis who was ready to retire could do what he did a prime Lewis would have destroyed Vitali. So why give a guy a chance to beat an over the hill Lewis when he wouldn't have competed in his prime? Lewis told his family it was his last fight and he kept his promise.

Q - Holyfield and Tyson in their primes would have destroyed him.

A - Mike Tyson gave up his WBC title to avoid fighting # 1 mandatory Lennox Lewis. Riddick Bowe through his in the garbage to avoid Lewis, Lewis handled both Bowe and Tyson pretty easily in the amateurs. Mike Tyson said after the fight that "HE COULD NEVER HAVE BEATEN LENNOX LEWIS" Also Mike Tyson struggled with lesser fighters in his prime.

A prime Holyfield may have beaten Lennox Lewis, but Lewis wanted to fight Holyfield in Evanders prime as well but Evander said the money was not there and chose to fight Bowe instead.

Lennox Lewis never avoided one person his entire career and on two occasions had to sue to make guys fight him. Mike Tyson being one of them I believe. He destroyed the top guys of his era, beat every body. He could be a destroyer or stand at a distance and make you look dumb.

Im not sure what your basing your opinion on but its not facts.

If you watch that fight you will realise vitali had lennox on the run and was beating him to the punch pretty often, lewis only won due to an old cut being opened up on vitali's eye which was bad enough for the fight to be stopped and lewis proclaimed the winner.

Lewis is a clever guy, he was looking to retire anyway and wanted to finish his career on a high, why would he chance loosing to the only other credible heavy weight around at the time by offering him a rematch?

Yeah asker, they both sucked.

Lennox Lewis, one of the oldest Heavyweight Champions and the only man to beat everyone he stepped in the ring with since Marciano.

Vitali Klitschko, one of the oldest Heavyweight Champions who only lost 2 fights due to injury and not getting put on his butt or on the wrong side of a decision ...

Those guys suck SO bad.

Lewis retired because it was time for him to go before he lost to Vitali or someone else. He was known for fighting older well, but that was because the competition was not very stiff. Once Vitali scared Lennox, he decided to retire. There was no more "aging american legends" to fight. Better to go out without taking too many beatings.

**to the guy that compared lewis to marciano. lol...what a joke. Rahman dropped Lennox like a sack of potatoes.

hes says hes got nothing to prove yet he lost credit and has been called a coward etc he should of rematched klitsko and knocked his *** out
