Cheer is definitely a sport, actually one of the most dangerous. A mix of dance and gymnastics.
Don't worry, people say that tennis isn't a sport *rolls eyes* I'd like to see them try.
I consider cheer an athletic activity, probably in the same category as dance, and I guess I might even refer to it as a sport. I just think it shouldn't be compared or thought of as equal to sports like soccer, basketball, baseball, etc. I know several cheerleaders at my school and none of them are very athletic (based on what mile/2 mile times they get, the amount of push ups they can do, and stuff like that). When you do sports like the ones I mentioned before, you get extremely fit, because of both the conditioning and playing the sport itself. There's excessive running, jumping, kicking, swinging, shooting, and plenty of mental tactics that go into those sports, and players need the stamina to do it for long periods of time. I don't know that much about cheerleading, but I'm pretty sure the competitions dont last for more than 5 minutes. And about your point about injuries, pretty much any physical activity has a risk of getting hurt.
Cheerleaders are athletes, no doubt. My opinion on this has been controversial among me and my team members. I believe that cheer is as much of a sport as Dance and Gymnastics. If you think either of those is a sport, then Cheer is a sport. I am on two cheer teams, one of them is a high school team. On my high school team, we run 2+ miles each practice and condition for at least 30 min. Cheerleading is a sport.
As long as you're willing to call League of Legends and Halo and Starcraft sports then sure I'll call cheerleading a sport. After all, they have badminton, trampolines, handball, and ping pong in the Olympics. I'm pretty sure that means you're allowed to call anything you want a sport.
Thank you for telling me this but if that is a video game, then no it's not a sport because it doesn't follow 1 & 4. There's no injuries happening, or athletic ability. But thank you for taking time to read what I had to say. I also have a question about suite life on deck parties, if you have an ansewer for that, or tell your friends about it. Thanks so much!!
Its definatley a sport it takes work and practice
I'm an all star level two cheerleader at Brandon All Stars, and I would like to know who thinks cheerleading is not a sport. I am about to tell you why it's definitely a sport. Sports are determined by 4 things. 1. Points, check. At competitions (all star means competition cheer) we gain/lose points by technique and choreography. The team with the most points win. The system is almost the same as gymnastics. 2. Activity, Cheer is very athletic. In our routine's, we flip girls around in the air, along with a lot of tumbling, and just plain running to get to certain formations. 3. Practices, I do 2 hours of training 2 days a week. Soon it will be 2 1/2 hours plus a 30 min. Private lesson. I think that's enough to be considered a sport. 4. Injuries, Cheer was rated the most dangerous sport in the world at one time. Last season, 2 girls broke a bone. One fell out of a stunt, and the other got kicked while tumbling. Another words, it's given it's share of injuries. You can go ahead and say its not a sport, but think. While you watch TV, we're at practice, red in the face from flipping, lifting others in the air, and striking poses in the air. Thank you for reading this. Please spread the word. I hope cheer gains it's respect as a sport from everyone. Again, thank you so much for reading. Please tell me what you think. But if you really think its not a sport, please lic up " Brandon All Stars Senior Black" and you'll see how amazing we're training to be. Say what U think. Thanks!
