Which HeavyWeight Champ has fallen harder?

Tyson. Riddick Bowe had never attained the stature, popularity and the commercial success Iron Mike had achieved in his two stints as undisputed heavyweight champion. Riddick was already a bum after his two forgettable fights with Andrew Golota and being kicked out of a marine boot camp for being too sloppy.

In all honesty, these names could be interchangable.

Riddick Bowe didnt have the demand or the appeal that Tyson did. But I can imagine that if the roles were reversed, the outcome would have been the same.

I have to disagree on Tyson having no "failed attempts" at a comeback. Basically every fight he took leading up to Lennox Lewis, Lewis and all subsequent fights WERE his failed attempts. He hadnt really taken boxing, or himself seriously long before that.

I would say Tyson's fall was more tragic. Bowe financially only fell once...his legacy and money went pretty quickly after he left boxing. And although I am sympathetic for his slur, I think thats something you know is a probability going in. I dont consider Tommy Hearns to be tragic and he sounds like every word he has ever used in his life is spelled with at least TWO S's.

What makes Tyson's fall so tragic is that HE KEEPS GETTING UP TO THE TOP and screwing it up. People want to see him succeed. He has made and lost more money than most people ever get to see in their families next ten lifetimes. People give him opportunity after opportunity, and he tragically destroys himself against his own best judgement.

"Tyson seems like he has the resources to get his name out there and find productive work out there besides fighting. i have to give him props for not attempting some failed comeback"

Agreed, you said it perfectly there.

You could say that Tyson has fallen harder in the sense that he lost WAAAY more money than Bowe, but both are broke.

Tyson is one of the most famous fighters ever. From the US to Asia to Africa to South America to Europe, etc....all over the world people know who Tyson is.

Iron Mike can make good money just by showing up at parties or doing whatever other things like that. HE doesn't need to go back to fighting, he isn't that desperate b/c he has other opportunities to make money.

Unlike Bowe (and RJJ as another example), they need to keep fighting in order to supplement their income and pay off their debts. Especially Bowe, he doesn't have a name to make enough money or a job w/ HBO like Roy does.

It's really too bad that he's in this situation, but in terms of the question Mike has gotta be much better off.

Mike Tyson fallen harder but he also made a better recovery with now being a promoter and running his own charities.

I think that Tyson has fallen farther from grace, but you're right that he's doing better because he's also had a better recovery.

: )

.

Mike Tyson or Riddick Bowe??

10 years ago or even 5 years ago, the choice was easy: Tyson...

now i'm not so sure...

Tyson seems to be doing a lot better in 2013 than Bowe is. last time anyone heard from Bowe, he was getting KTFO in some gay azz mui thai kickboxing fight...

Tyson seems like he has the resources to get his name out there and find productive work out there besides fighting. i have to give him props for not attempting some failed comeback

but, Tyson has admitted to recent drug usage, and in recent years has lost a child

but Bowe is worse off in my opinion. he lost all his fortunes like Tyson, and like Tyson he had to go to prison for a while.....and he sounds like he has some extent of brain damage, and he'd sounded that way for a while now

which of these guys has fallen the farther from grace?

who has the better chance to be successful in retirement
