The Tua fight was exciting as people were expecting if Lenox can evade those hard punches by The Samoan all night long. Right he did, and i cant remember if Tua got any round in that fight. Tua didnt mind either. IMO he came in there and tried if he can land something at Lewis cuz if he did, it'll be over. Actually, its a real case of David Tua vs Goliath. If it'll be 10 times over,it'll be 10 - 0 in favor of the Brit. Great performance nonetheless by Lenox but never his greatest in my eyes.
What was Lennox Lewis' best performance as a Pro?
-IMHO Lewis' best performance was against Holyfield int the first fight. Lenox admitted he was impressed of the Real Deal in the pre fight but commented after" he's never that good" Lewis displayed a masterful boxing that night and i thought Ali came back and fought one more time.
It would be easy to pick one of Lennox' high profile fights against the bigger names in the division. The series with Holyfield and what some consider his career defining moment in leveling Mike Tyson are easily worth consideration.
However, I think the one performance that shows Lennox Lewis at his best was his rematch against Hasim Rahman. After losing his title to Rahman --due to poor preparation, many outside obligations and a lack of preparation for the high altitude in Africa-- Lennox came in at a fit 242 lbs. He was prepared, focused and never looked better. The jab was working better than it ever worked before and, by the end of the first round, poor Rahman realized he was in WAY over his head.
By the end of the first round, Rahman was reduced to all he had, his power. However, Lennox had the power to match Rahman's. Along with his power, Lennox displayed the skills to dismantle his opponent. Systematically, he took Rahman apart. The final combination, a left hook and solid right to the jaw, put Rahman to sleep.
Hasim never knew what hit him.
Prob his kayo of Donovan Ruddock, 'tho "Razor" was damaged goods by then.
His performance against Tua was good, but the "Tuaman" was made to order for him, being a short stalker who didn't let his hands go very much unless his opponent stood and traded with him.
Lennox also looked good vs Tyson, but "Iron" Mike always had problems with busy jabbers and lost his nerve against those he couldn't intimidate.
If not for their size, Lewis and the K brothers would not be AT top ten hvys and I can't envision any of them beating the more skillful, determined, and durable Sonny Liston & Larry Holmes.
I know Lennox had some spectacular KO's in his career, but IMO the way he took apart David Tua for 12 rounds was masterful. He boxed beautifully, used the jab, moved, and actually stunned Tua with big rights all while Tua barely connected with his big left hook. He fought the perfect fight against Tua.
