Rocky Marciano and Michael Spinks
My hat is off to both of these men who retired and never came back good for them. They retired at the right time and are both legitimate hall of famers all time greats and are 2 of the all time greats in their respective divisions.
The two most notable fighters to retire in their primes were Marciano and Tunney.
They achieved their goals and got out of the game, unlike many who stay around too long because they can not give up the money.
Rocky Marciano. He retired before a fight with Floyd Patterson could be made, due to Pattersons chin I'm sure Rocky would have knocked him out but it wouldn't have been easy.
Also; Liston was climbing the heavyweight ranks and i know he would have caused problems for Rocky.
rocky marciano
gene tunney
khaosai galaxy
brian mitchell
michael spinks (rusty and only slightly past his prime when he fought tyson)
marvin hagler (same as spinks when he fought leonard)
i would include former middle & super middleweight champ steve collins on this list but for the fact that he's apparently been granted a boxing licence with view to a comeback.
Roy Jones jr and Evander Holyfield retired just on time... oh wait.
marvin hagler ..he had slipped a bit but nothing compared to what ended up happening to leonard.duran or hearns and lennox lewis
Who retired just on time?
