Was Tyson overrated in power?

No, his strength is not overrated. He was knocking people out at 15 years old and also holds the Junior Olympic record for fastest KO which was 8 seconds. Unless you think his technique was that good at the age of 15, I would say no. He always possessed that power and the technique he learned as the years progressed allowed him to compete at the elite level. Technique plus power. Don't forget he also started his boxing career with 19 straight KOs, he started fighting pro at the age of just 19 too. so you already know his power is not overrated and def not something to underrate. I like how you pointed out his technique though because it's not really that his strength is overrated, but rather his technique is underrated.

I think I see what you are asking, but you are using the words interchangably when they actually arent.

Strength is seperate from power. Strength is the bodies ability to withstand stress, IE weight or cardio.

POWER is the ability to generate force.

If you are asking was Tysons STRENGTH was overated, eh Id say a little. Was he as physically strong as many heavyweights? Im sure there were guys that were never rated that could do more physically in training than he could.

Now if you are asking was Tyson overated in POWER?? Even as little regard as I have for Tyson as a person, I will definitely say he was not overrated. This man could generate power from his punching, whether he was taught proper body mechanics, he did it naturally, his speed and the mass of his compact frame made him a force. When he threw a hook, your relatives felt it.

No, Tyson was naturally a very powerful man endowed with athleticism. In his first year, he fought 15 times and won all while blowing all opposition that included a number of fringe contenders and former rated fighters as Donnie Long, Larry Simms, Conroy Nelson, and Mark Young! That's prodigious power for you!

no could punch very hard no doubt about it he had many first round knockouts and he k.od larry holmes who was known for his iron chin even if he was past his prime hes still the only man who have ever knocked him out

Absolutely not...His power, arguably second to none...

He had alot of power, for sure, but he also used technique and explosiveness to gain alot more power.

Because of his technique I think that gave him alot more power (the way he shot from his arms, elbows tucked, certain sweet spots)

So is he really all that or is he overrated in strength?
