1. Work your event around a theme - finger buffet, fancy dress, formal dinner
2. Work out your preferred menu/food type and style
3. Allocate each guest bringing a dish a specific/appetiser they are have to make and contribute (this saves duplicates) and agree this well before the event
4. Allocate someone to greet, meet and handle coats/and welcome drinks
5. Issue invites and remind who is bringing what to avoid mix ups.
6. Close off any rooms/areas out of bounds, and put valuables away.
7. Put an end time on the festivities, you can always extend this if you choose.
8. Find time to mingle with the guests and enjoy your own party.
9. Once they have all gone congratulate yourself on a job well done.
Hope that helps.
I'm having my first Housewarming Party soon. We're making three appetizers, desserts and drinks, and everyone is bringing an appetizer to share. I want this to be laid back and relaxing. Tips and advice on decorating, food or anything else would be greatly appreciated.
