I have been in the food business since 1987 with my first job in food service when I went back into the work force once the kids were back in school. I have always been a foodie though. When my kids were small, that was when "convenience" recipes became popular. LOTS of new recipes ingredient lists started with "1 1/2 cups Bisquik" I was a mom of 4 living on a farm and Bisquik wasn't EVER on my shopping list so I began collecting OLD recipes and old cook books. My kids, hubby and I tried our hand at ANYTHING we could think of to make from scratch, from saltine crackers to pizza with the tomatoes we grew as part of the sauce.
Imagine my delight when the Food Network came to be in 1993 and most all the "chefs" were cooking from scratch.
after working for 12 years in health care food service(its not as awful as you may think.) I got a job working for a woman who owned 3 facilities and an award winning bakery. For 18 years together we explored French cuisine, dabbled in Alsatian specialties, played with Eastern European themed foods. She introduced me to all sorts of foods, cooking methods and techniques that most excellent home cooks have never tackled. We got into the science of why one thing works and the other doesn't, how to do all sorts of things. IT WAS fabulous.
Sadly arthritis ended my career as a chef but oh I do miss it. The creativity, the fun, the fast pace; all of it.
Food hasn't JUST become popular. Its been for a long while.
At least for us foodies it has been.
food has always been a very popular subject for most of us! Food is necessary to keep body and mind functioning properly.
But what I think you are referring to is the suden popularity of HEALTHY foods. This is a total misnomer as all foods are healthy in proper serving portions! Each "food guru" has his/her own thoughts on what is healthy and what is not but don't necessarily take into consideration tradition, regional, ethnic, etc values of the various foods available to the buying public.
Mrs Obama and her head chef have gained control of school lunch program and believe everyone should eat what she wants her own kids to eat for lunch. This is totally wrong as kids will rebel and toss that otherwise good food in the trash bins. And now comes the minority Halal food plans! Nothing except proven halal foods can be eaten at any school or children's centers even if brought from home. Do we all have to eat according to super minorities? NO! No we don't but just try sending pork chop sandwich to your local day care center for your child to eat for lunch! Child gets to starve!
Food has always been 'a big thing', to those who take an interest in various cuisines and cooking. It's only fairly recently that food and food preparation has become popular on TV, which has awakened a new interest in the general public.
The popularity of food isnt a new thing....its just now you can upload your food photos to social networks so it has become more visible.
Maybe you are depressed. Many people who are depressed eat to temporarily relieve the pain of sadness.
because there are more and more choices of ways to be entertained and a method proved to be successful in attracting audiences to a specific medium is to involve every possible segment of the audience/public. that participation and desire to be included is reflected in other forms of media such as social networks - like a feeding frenzy.
Food has always been popular.
People has become more depressed. when depressed people tend to eat more.
idk
For the past 2-3 years food has turned into a big thing. why is that?
