1) Marquez really isn't living a dream. He is quietly satisfied that he finally got the outcome that he felt he deserved. Marquez needed this victory for his own piece of mind not for any legacy. He is also an ATG, not as popular as Pacquiao, but every bit as accomplished. The 3 previous fights were not lopsided affairs and each could have gone either way, especially the 3rd fight where many believed that Marquez clearly won. His win was emphatic in the 4th fight because as he said prior, he did not want to leave it in the judges hands.
2) The momentum of the fight was shifted to Pacquiao when he knocked Marquez down and broke his nose, but there are always momentum shifts in Marquez-Pacquiao fights. Marquez is a rugged and determined fighter. He was not getting tired. Just prior to the knockout, there had been an exchange where Marquez had pushed Pacquiao back with a series of punches. From what I saw in the replay, Pacquiao landed a solid punch, then Marquez stepped back, probably from the effect of the punch, but it also seemed as if he was setting a trap for Pacquiao to follow him into the corner area. He did. Pacquiao walked into a perfectly timed and thrown counter right hand. It wasn't a haymaker, which implies that is was thrown wildly. You can see from the replay that Pacquiao threw a punch first (which grazed Marquez) and jumped in behind it (as he does at times) Marquez was in perfect position to throw that punch and executed it well. Which leads to ....
3) There is no way in heck that Pacquiao would be considered more technically gifted than Marquez. Quicker, stronger, and more aggressive yes. Technically gifted, no way. Marquez's counter punching is equal that of Mayweather, Ward, or Hopkins. His technical skills, determination, and ruggedness are what kept him so competitive in his previous bouts with Pacquiao. You can make a case that Pacquiao has a good chance of beating Marquez in a 5th fight but it would not be because he has so many advantages over his arch rival.
I think that unless Manny made some major adjustments to his offense, that he would stand a good chance of getting stopped again. He did make adjustments in incorporating more head movement, which did puzzle Marquez somewhat, but he abandoned that plan when the leather started flying. I think that the same thing would happen in a 5th fight. When you get into the thick of it, you fall back on what you are familiar and comfortable with. It would be a good fight but no guarantee for either fighter.
I think that Marquez would be fine in taking a final rematch or in taking out the top 140 pound fighters and unifying the division before heading out into the sunset and the HOF.
The thing about the impending 5th Pac- JMM bout is there's too much money involved and too much to let go especially for El Dinamita. Marquez's eyes will want to leap out its sockets like the old old cartoon movies when one is depicted being shocked or surprised. The digits JMM will see win or lose will turn his eyes into dollar signs It will be about money for JMM and surely he wont avoid Manny but hug him instead like a long lost brother during the promotions.
As for Pacquiao, there is no other fight for him than the election. He is no more the Pacquiao fighter we all fell in love with. Trust me, if he hears the name Marquez for a return bout, he will sign as soon as possible whether its just for a penny because he needed Marquez and that win, an impressive win much the same as JMM did him in 2012. You are right bro, the avenger this time will get himself vindicated. If that happens, then its hello senate for the fighting congressman.
What should he do?
- Fight another day
What last two opponents should he fight - And why..??
- he should fight Pac and Floyd..Why? because those were the big fights
To all those mocking Eddie .
Pacquiao is just as technical as JMM , Pac presents his technicality in an outstanding precise aggressive nature . You don't have to be a counter puncher to be technical . Early Mike Tyson was very technical .
Marquez should offer Pac the fight as Pac offered the 4th to Marquez out of respect for the controversial 3rd war .
Marquez will fight on as he is a warrior, and will fail to hang up the leather , just like 99% of warriors do .
Absolutely not, the money to be made and the historical legacy surrounding this rivalry is epic, without a doubt they should fight again.
the 5th time is all about money.
but still I will watch it..
"I think Pacquaio is more technically skillful" LOL. Really , I think you are confused.
did you really just put "i think pacquiao is more technically skillful" i stopped reading after that.......................
Ok... Lets look at the facts:
Marquez is currently living the dream.. He has a knockout victory registered against an all time great.
He can live off that win for the rest of his life (Talking fame and acclaim here..)
Would a 5th fight really prove anything one way or the other..?
In my opinion... Pac walked into a hay maker... He was beginning to turn the heat up on a tired Marquez at that point..
There is an above average chance that Pac will win a return fight.
Now.... Before everybody starts getting hot under the collar, I think Marquez won fair and square.. He really pumped himself up for this fight. He won via hard work and dedication - That is undisputed.
I think Pacquaio is more technically skillful, and more aggressive. I also think that Pacquaio would avenge this defeat should a rematch be arranged.
Of course we have to consider the greenbacks... The dollar bills are where the book stops.
Marquez is in a great bargaining position.. He can command his biggest payday to date. But so could Mayweather a couple of years ago... It doesn't have to happen.
What should Marquez do...? (Think like a proud boxer here - Not a money crazy prostituite). Marquez has his legacy intact.. He can fight another two times against 'selected' opponents, and still live his life financially secure, as will the next few Marquez generations too....
What should he do?
What last two opponents should he fight - And why..??
