OOOF!!! What do people make of that stoppage?

That was Scott's own fault.

He stayed on his knee for nine

Yes, technically, you should be able to shoot up at even nine-and-three-quarters seconds - but you are courting disaster playing with fire like that.

It is ultimately ref's discretion.

Taking a knee was smart.

Staying until nine was stupid.

I saw him up as the count hit 9. He was upright and the ref just waived it off without checking out whether Scott could continue. I have seen other fights where the fighter is up at 9 is still wobbly, but could walk forward on command and the ref let the fight continue. It is always a judgment call and Scott did put himself there by waiting a bit too long, since I don't think that he was really hurt from the punch. However, that was a really bad call by the referee. There needs to be a rematch.

That was a bullsh*t and horrible call by the ref.

Malik was clear headed and was clearly standing up before the count of ten. Neither of his knees were on the ground, he started getting up at the count of 8, and then this ,"referee" counted nine really quick and then waved the fight off.

Pretty pathetic IMO. I'm not mad, b/c I was thinking Scott would win, but he got bet down on my book so quickly that I couldn't pass up Del Boy as a +150 underdog.

Still, I feel bad for Scott...he seemed to be on his way to a competitive but clear decision, at least on my scorecard that's the way it was heading. Who knows what could've happened though.

You're right too, Malik showed class after such a questionable stoppage. A lot of guys would've flipped the f*ck out.

Imagine if Malik had the attitude of Zab Judah? lol it would've been mayhem.

what i dont understand, It was at the end of the round. Why did Scott go for the extra second or so on the knee when he was about to have 60 seconds on his stool?

It was turning to a good fight and I think it was impossible to call a winner when the stoppage came. Controversial? Yes. But Chisora lost a controversial decision against Helanious, so things even themselves out.

Hopefully Scott will be back soon. We haven't seen the best of him yet.

scott looked clear headed to me and the ref should of let him continue.his mistake was getting up at 9 so i don't think it's the worst call ever but still.chances are chisora would have went on to win anyway so i don't feel to bad for scott

the count reminded me of the ali/foreman fight except scott was ok were as foreman was knackered and had taken a good tumble on his way down.

i agree scott had a very good attitude. all the hard work/sacrifices just went out the window and he still handled it well and showed alot of class

wait until flash kd comes on.he'l be screaming robbery

i was wrong....looks like teodor beat him too it lol

Malik appeared to be fine- he was just resting/waiting during the count and was fully aware with faculties in order...he did however take a gamble because although he easily made the count as planned he didnt count on the ref calling it off....he should have gotten up with his hands already raised and ready to box to avoid the stoppage....cant blame the ref too much...or even malik....just bad luck.

The fight was held in England, what do you expect? After Price was bludgeoned again by American Tony Thompson, the last thing UK needs now is another loss by a hometown boy at home.

OK, OK I over reacted. But refs are supposed to ascertain first if the fighter is in no condition to continue. Malik was up on all fours before the count of ten. It could be a judgment call. But still what a hasty judgment.

Crappy @$$ call!! He was looking at the Ref the whole time and was up on the count of 9. It was a home town ref ordeal.

I found it fair. Scott delayed way too much.

Malik Scott controversially stopped after failing to get up from the ref's count. Scott says he was up at 9, too close to call for me, but disappointed as the fight was just getting going and both guys looked good. Credit to Scott though, refused to take anything away from Chisora, admitted he got hit with a good shot, but refused to call the ref's count into question, real class act.

Thoughts?
