Muhammad Ali lost to Leon Spinks.
Joe Louis lost to Ezzard Charles.
Who would win if the 2 had met at the age of 36?
Both were certainly shells of their former fighting primes. Ali was out of shape and lethargic when he fought Spinks and though he did defeat him in the rematch, was never the same fighter again. Joe Louis was in trouble with the IRS and needed the money but had some decent wins in his comeback though he lost badly to Charles who was certainly a much greater fighter than Spinks. I cannot imagine Joe Louis ever losing to Leon Spinks not even on his worst day! To me Louis would have defeated Ali and most likely soundly though it would have been a boring fight.
Joe Louis WSD 15
Wow, this would be one sad fight.
Two of the greatest heavyweights, one nearing pugilistic Parkinsons, the other desperate for money and out of shape. Thank godness it never happened, although Ali's last fights were painful to watch, and Marciano's dispatch of Louis was horrible as well.
Round 1. Joe Louis wins, as he throws some impressive shadow boxing rights......while Ali is stumbling around infront of the press table, lost and confused.
Rounds 2-3 Both fighters come out even as Ali makes it into the ring and tosses some quick jabs, and now Louis is caught napping as he discusses his debt with some IRS guys....but hits Ali with one aggressive right cross for interrupting his loan plea with Max Schmeling.
Rounds 3-6 are a mixed bag, as Ali mistakenly hits the ref and Louis, completely out of shape, takes a nap.
Round 7 is the highlight of the fight, as both fighters dig down in their championship experience and heart to each throw some big shots, but Ali thinks the fight is over and wanders off, while Louis leaves to play golf with Charlie Sifford.
The fight is a draw!
Joe Louis wins by UD
