Instead of working on sports management you will be better off getting a business degree.
It's not so much that it is useless, it is more that it is inadequate if you want to rise to a higher level in that industry. If you really want to get into sports management with a shot at perhaps having your own small firm or being an associate at one of the big boys you really need to consider getting a law degree and then specializing in an area such as contracts and negotiations, etc.. Law school and perhaps interning at a sports management firm should be the proper progression. Of course this completely goes out the window for celebrities and those with very deep pockets and great connections who can be the face of a company, but they must still hire the best lawyers..
Sports management is a good major if you're going to work in sports or the leisure/tourist industry. But there are areas that overlap into other businesses. Marketing and Sales, for example. Sports teams need to market their product and sell, just like any other business.
Yes… Unfortunately, there are a lot of useless degrees, and that's one of them.
Look, I'm 25 and have this degree but have lost all desire to pursue any jobs in this field. A desk job at any business will do that actually pays salary. Is this possible or did I just screw my future by graduating with this bachelors degree?
