Is it possible to start gymnastics at 19?

No, those are fairly simple things to learn. You just have to learn how to balance yourself. Other things that go with gymnastics, such as flipping, doing a split, etc...those take a long time to learn. I'm sure you've already stopped growing, so you bones are stationary. To move, and shift those bones would take alot of will-power. It's never "too" late, but it will be harder for you to take it up compared to a 4 year old. As for hand stands, try doing it up against a wall, then slowly moving away from it. Cartwheels take more time to learn, because you have to trust yourself, and not be scared of falling. Try doing that with your hands up, then lean sideways. Do it on a soft surface. Not on something like concrete.

Never too late. There is such thing as Women's gymnastics and its basically the same thing but for 18+.

Cartwheels:

I had troubles too with a cartwheel. Everyone could do it in my class but you know what I did? I watched videos of how to do one like, 10 times and practiced at home. I also watched my friends do cartwheels to learn. Eventually, after a week or so I could do a cartwheel at my house on my own.

Handstands:

I had troubles with my handstands too. Before I even started gymnastics, I tried handstands every day on my trampoline. I now know that trampoline is not really good for handstands. So I tried doing what gymnastics taught me: Balance on the beam to gain balance and do a handstand against a wall to get the feeling of a handstand. It takes some time to do one.

Increasing flexibility:

I was never flexible until I joined gymnastics. I can acquire flexibility faster than an average person because of my figure: Long neck, fairly long legs, strong but skinny arms, great posture. But that doesn't mean you can't become more flexible than you are now. It took me 2 months to do the splits and all I did was stretch every day on my own or at gymnastics for 1 minute. I worked on my legs the most by going as far as I could in a split even if it hurt. So since you are already flexible, you'll be a great gymnast and possibly learn faster than everyone else.

Not too late for fun..I'm sure there's an adult class somewhere! It's very fun.

Yeah it should be fine if your quit flexabile already x

Im a 19 year old female and i was wondering is it possible to take up gymnastics at such a late stage? I do karate on a regular basis so im not extremely inflexible but im not really that flexible either. I did do gymnastics when i was about 7 but i gave it up because i couldn't learn to cartwheel. I still cant cartwheel or handstand though i have tried to learn on several occasions. Is it too late for me to take up gymnastics? Or even to learn to handstand and cartwheel? Also any advice on achieving a handstand or cartwheel would be much appreciated.

Thanks in advance!
