Is cheerleading a sport?

Im a guy and i don't know if cheerleading is a real sport my friends are arguing about it and i wanted a good answer.

I am an all star cheerleader so obviously I will defend my sport with whatever it takes, just like anyone I their own sport. However I do respect people who say it isn't because everyone is allowed to have their own opinions.

I'd also like to mention though that most people have never even tried it. Once you try it you will realize that it is just as physically demanding as any other sport, and I puts a lot more strain on the body then lets say, soccer. I'm not trying to put down soccer but if you look at the Olympics, cheer is similar to gymnastics and Olympic gymnasts are all still teens while the soccer players are much older. That is because older people can sustand the strain flipping does to the body. However I agree with the first person that cheerleaders that wave Pom poms are not athletes.

Sorry if I sound like the typical cheerleader but I have to say I'm touchy. I respect everyone's opinions though.

Lets put it this way, football players throw balls. Cheerleaders throw girls. weightlifters lift weights we lift full size people throw them in the air like its nothing wile there spinning multiple ways. We can "flip" over people's head. Now i agree people chanting and cheering for other teams is not a sport but competive cheer FOR SURE IS. Watch this video

Its like sycrinized swimming how its actually unwatchable to most real sport fans but it actually considered a sport .It does keep people in shape and some girls look sexy in those skirts.

competitive cheerleading - yes.

the cheerleading where they just wave their arms like idiots and go "GO TEAMMMM!!! WHOOOO!" is not.

Officially yes, realistically no.
