@Nightmare you are a moron. You clearly cannot tell the difference between ethnicity and race. Sergio Martinez is white. Stupid Americans thinking Latino is a race.
Argentina and Uruguay are more white than the USA.
@JD I said that race and ethnicity are different. In Mexico they are even white Mexicans even few who are pure European. Check CIA factbook and wikipedia. Argentina is about 85% white, and Uruguay is more than 90% white. Both nations are whiter than many European nations. The term Hispanic is really only used in the USA, its an alien term everywhere else in the world.
@JD also Maravilla might not be 100% white but he probably does have mostly European genes so its not outrageous from him to be considered white.
@Poop
Just as race and ethnicity aren't necessarily one in the same, neither are race and skin complexion. There are indeed many White Argentinians, however, many also possess mixed ancestry and Martinez happens to come from a poor neighborhood where many Mestizos/Castizos reside. Just because his skin is more on the fair side, it doesn't necessarily mean he's fully European. I've never heard him specifically refer to himself as White or European, only Argenitinian and Latino, so I don't understand why some people feel the need to force a racial category on him.
@Poop
The CIA World Factbook is highly unreliable. There have been genetic studies that have shown a significant percentage of the Argentine population possess at least partial native ancestry. Just look at guys like Maidana and Luis Collazo. You described Martinez as simply White period, which may not be the case. No it wouldn't be outrageous if his ancestry was predominantly White, it also wouldn't be outrageous if he had Castizo or Mestizo lineage.
Terms like "Hispano" and "Latino" are not "alien" in other parts of the world. They're frequently used in Spanish speaking countries to refer to things pertaining to the Spanish language and the culture/people from Latin America. Also, in most Latin American countries nationality trumps race. Argentinians support Martinez and Maidana alike, without giving a second thought to their complexion. The only thing that matters to them is they both represent Argentina. I've heard/read Martinez emphasize his Argentino and Latino roots on several occasions, but I've never heard him make reference to race. So again, I don't understand why some people feel the need to force racial labels on individuals that may not even be accurate.
Martinez is Mestizo which is a mix of races. He has that distinct latin look which is more than just a mix of white and black [it's native American].
@poop Statistics on race are gathered in national surveys, this is where CIA fact book got its statistics.
South American surveys are a piece of crap and unreliable. There are headlines about how they only give 2 options; black or white.
Example: Do you really think 35% of Puerto Ricans are white & 28% black?
My dad had to put white because it was the more believable option but it was still ridiculous considering how native American he looks
Dude you're a f*cking idiot. Quit trying to claim white Latinos as white guys who can fight. If anything he looks like a mestizo. Dumbass.
Is he faster than a prime Joe Calzaghe?
