BQ. Is Pacquiao better when fighting as underdog?
Here's the thing... When Pacquiao fought at Welterweight, being from lower weight classes...he came with speed and work rates bigger welterweights weren't use to defending against...add to that, he brought his power with him. A smaller weight guy like Marquez wasn't taken aback by his speed or workrate, which made Pacquiao easier for him than other opponents. Lower weight guys aren't surprised by Pacquiao, so he's not as difficult for them.
We have still to qualify that. Bigger, older, slower men at the twilight of their career, and mostly in that inequitable catch weight yet!
Could not say definitely if he is better fighting as underdog, although he won all four previous major bouts where he was the underdog. The last time Manny was the underdog was the ODLH fight yet. He was and has been the favorite in most of his fights before and after that fight with Oscar, save for the Barrera first fight in 2004, Sasakul and Lebwaba fights in the late 90s and early 2000s yet.
He is good when he is fighting men who
-are slow
-have no defense
-are flat footed
pretty much most fighters today. Speed isn't a big one because he is faster than everyone he fights but he is good when the guys he fights don't move and don't defend. They just walk in chin first into his combinations.
Yes, as long as he has his speed and quickness.
Manny is pretty good no matter who he is fighting.
All his losses, save for El terrible were against smaller men.
