I think that he is trying to establish his legacy more as a good fighter now that he is approaching the end of his career. I too saw a bit of a softening in his language, when he was interviewed on Showtime just after he got the 6 fight deal. Then again, he was taunting the wife of Cornelius Bundrage during the Ishe Smith fight a week or two later, which got him right back into the "Money" persona.

He is trying to rehabilitate his image by using the media to put out his side of the story on his conviction, but recently his Ex granted an interview that refuted what he said on his 30 Days in May special. She has been quiet about the situation but said that she could not allow Mayweather to call his kids liars for their parts in the situation.

Ultimately I don't think it will work. There is too much out there, and Mayweather is too vain to admit that he has done anything wrong. He has too many people around him kissing his butt to really allow him the introspection that is needed to reform. It is hard enough for people to change when they are highly motivated. I just don't see him able to fully retreat from the image and life that he has put himself into.

he still flashes his money around as much as ever, but i think he's toned down his trash talking because his opponents can always play the "wife beater" card against him and that's bad for his image.

I don't think he's backing out of it but going to jail has opened his eyes to his life style and he may be trying to adjust to a simpler life style.
