Yeah I disagree with those diva demands but when you're the number one draw in the sport you can make 'em and guys like Maidana are always going to yield because he wants to get paid and will feel that he can still do a good job with alternative gloves.
But this clearly gives the advantage to the fighter who is not looking for the knockout, in this case Mayweather, and screws the plan of the fighter who is all about hard volume punches.

And what gave you the idea that Morales would agree to such when back in his rematches with Manny pacquiao he was already balking at the idea of Pacquiao insisting on using Cleto Reyes, a standard not custom-made gloves favored by punchers?

Legit Ko punchers of old like Dempsey, Marciano, Louis, Moore, Foster, Frazier, Foreman, Jackson, Shavers and Tyson did not use or demand the use of specific types of gloves, much less custom-built gloves in scoring their knockouts. They were naturally heavy-handed and they were really capable of knocking out people even using pillows for gloves
Rules and regulations prescribe the use only of standard, pre-tested and pre-qualified and pre-approved pairs and types of gloves for boxing bouts.
There are standard, accredited pairs of Everlast MX gloves that Maidana can choose from but why should he insists on using his custom-made one if he is not bent on extracting undue advantage ( cheat )?
The authorities are right in ruling on the side of safety. It's more to the benefit of all concerned if so-called pillows are used than allowing one to use a sledgehammer to the dire disadvantage of the other. That's plain common sense..
