I'm on my cell-phone so I can't send links, but google it. Here's what I know off the top of my head: There was always a group of five to twenty people, called managers or the committee, that planned the ball. Sometimes one of high power would do it all alone. They were often held in grand ballrooms with elegant decorations. It was fashionable for people to arrive an hour late & ladies would wear intricate hairstyles often decorated with a single flower unless tall & depending on her body shape/weight, either a light or dark colored dress. Light colors like white, sea green, lavender, light blue, yellow & pink for smaller women & navy blue, black, etc. For bigger women. Married women tended to wear silk & single, cheaper light & thin materials. The refreshments were served in the evening in a different room. Things like cakes, teas, finger sandwiches & crackers. Around a certain time the public would be able to attend, not just everyone invited. People were always cordial to one another & everyone was taken care of. Everyone had someone to dance with & were offered food/drink.
